A free public seminar will be presented twice on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 9am and 3pm in the Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) building. This seminar is being hosted by the local student chapter of the American Nuclear Society and by the East Tennessee Chapter of the Health Physics Society. Brief presentations will be given on topics including radiation basics, natural radioactivity, regulation of radioactive material and radiation myths.
Industry professionals will be available to answer questions on related topics, and demonstrations will allow attendees to “see” radiation in a cloud chamber, handle radiation detection instruments and much, much more. While they last, radiation detection instruments will be provided to high school teachers and free radon test kits will be available from the state of Tennessee. Light refreshments will also be provided. For more information, contact robert.pace@chattanoogastate.edu or 423.697.5767.
