I just read the thread by "elf" about a new way to say thanks. A simple wave to another driver for showing common courtesy.
If we drove with the same respect and manners toward others as we use while walking in public or crowded places, accidents would be greatly reduced. Imagine the reduction in road rage.
I don't mean everybody needs to drive better, although they do. I'm talking about being more forgiving of others mistakes. Many times I think people are being very rude drivers, however, many times other drivers simply made a mistake.
If we were walking and bumped into each other, we would generally be courteous, i.e "excuse me", and continue on with no further animosity toward the other person.
It would help if the state required a higher level of competency to obtain a drivers license, but the common courtesy is up to us.
