Welcome, Interns! Therapeutic Recreation Services is so excited about the arrival of our Spring Interns: Zeke, Maria and Victoria. Read below to find out more about each of these students and please join us in making them feel welcome to Chattanooga! Maria Jarman My name is Maria Jarman and I am 22 years old. I am from Acworth, Georgia and am currently a student at Brigham Young University. I am majoring in Recreation Management and Youth leadership with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. I love hiking, camping, reading, the beach and most outdoor activities. I participated on my neighborhood swim team for 10 years. In addition I played softball from age 10 to 18 and lacrosse for my high school. I love Therapeutic Recreation and how it can benefit and improve our quality of life! I look forward to working with the City of Chattanooga as a Therapeutic Recreation intern. I hope to use my education and life experiences to help others, despite any limitations, enjoy all types of recreation. Victoria Fowlkes
My name is Victoria Fowlkes. I'm a senior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I'm majoring in therapeutic recreation. My hometown is Centerville, Tennessee. I chose to pursue a career in therapeutic recreation because I love participating in leisure and recreational activities can improve individuals' lives. After I graduate, I plan to become a certified therapeutic recreation specialist (CTRS). I still haven't figured out what population that I want to work with. My hobbies consist of hanging out with friends, baking, and playing sport. Fun fact: My favorite color's purple so I seem to be wearing something purple every day.
Zeke Watson First off, I cannot be more excited about coming to a great city like Chattanooga. I was born in Knoxville and grew up just outside in Jefferson County. I love being outdoors whether it is hiking, swimming or working as Aquatics Team Lead for Dollywood's Splash Country. When I was a Sophomore at UT I was trying to figure out what I wanted to major in and I made my way into The Camp Koinonia class (Camp Koinonia is a week long camp for kids with multiple disabilities directed through the Therapeutic Recreation program at UT); I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but by the end I knew this was the right major for me. Since my first camp, I have worked at 6 others as a counselor, activity staff, and head counselor. I've really found my passion working in this field, and I feel incredibly blessed to be able to be a part of it. I will be graduating in May of 2014 and I am considering continuing my education in either TR or OT in graduate school.
