Have not been to Hennen's yet, need to try it. Haven't been to St. Johns since they first opened and was not very impressed. Been to Bluewater three times, unfortunate experiences each time. I've not been to The Back Inn in 3-4 years and won't go back, too bad because they were very good years ago. Chain restaurants don't make the cut for me as far as "moneys no object". Even though I am a fan of 212 Market, for a truely memorable meal you will probably have to suck it up and go to Atlanta. I recommend Kyma, fresh fish flown in from the seas near Greece cooked in woodfired ovens, service is among the best I've ever experienced and the atmosphere is just unbelievable.

"Money is no object" is not really a qualifier in Chattanooga. Unless, of course, you just want someone to pay for a so-so $200 dinner just to prove a point. There are no steaks better than the organic ribeyes or t-bones from Greenlife. Have to cook them yourself, but Greenlife has a great selection of snoity beers (plus a 24oz Corona for good luck), ready-made side dishes and Ben and Jerrys. There's charcoal across the street at the cvs, dozens of grills in local parks and free entry to whatever instant mobflash is being IMed by the crips, the sopranos, crank yankers or missy's dot connectors.

Bwahahahahahaha!
Not to threadjack or anything, but did anyone else feel the need to turn down their radio (or turn it completely off) when she was on Talk Radio the other morning?

Good to see that SpinsandBarks is back to blab blab blab. Blech.

I've also heard some good things about Hennen's. Anybody been there? I LOVE Hennen's. The seared tuna is amazing - so is any of the cuts of steak. They make an excellent martini, and have lots of wines to choose from. I have eaten here for lunch about 4 times, and dinner about 8. Excellent atmosphere too.

Whim,
As to my post, I don't know of any restaurants in town so expensive that people go there not for the food, but to show how much money they're willing to spend, so I suggested that you would have to come up with some other option if you wanted to throw money around. It was a joke, and I goobered it. I'm sorry -- I meant no offense.

I get it. Thanks.

Yep, was just wanting to take the boy for a nice dinner while we were in town ... He's anxious about meeting the parents, etc. Just needed some suggestions ... Never really got into wine or good food when I was living in town, and figured since a lot of new places had opened that I would ask among the experts ...
Thanks for explaining yourself, however.

I would go with either 212 Market or my favorite The Back End Cafe. I have always had an amazing time at the Back End Cafe. Amazing food and views.

Was looking for a thread where the Bluewater Grille had already been mentioned:
1. Atmosphere -- nice & busy. 2. Service -- decent. 3. Drinks -- something with lime, mint, rum & soda except they didn't add any rum -- cheated on that score. 4. Food -- my wife's house salad (all she ordered) was good, but the lemon pepper grouper I ordered was embarrassingly tiny -- I've seen more actual fish flesh attached to cast off scales drying on the floors of piers than this restaurant served -- as victim of my wife's ridicule thanks to Bluewater's food fraud, I shan't return, EVER!

Canyon Grill is still our favorite spot in/around Chattanooga. Always take full advantage of the BYOB policy. I can hand pick my perfect 6 pack for steak.

Have been many times to Hennen's - the steak was always salty. Chop house smells like dead cows are layin around. And urine... St.Johns is good. But not enough to fill your tummy. So what is good? Where is the table two?

Try St. Johns Meeting Place.
Same kitchen, menu is a bit different. Excellent wine.
