We had been talking about stopping by this restaurant since we heard it mentioned on the news one evening, but had never made it downtown. Wayne and I recently went to the Aquarium to see the penguins and decided to give The New Orleans Extension Restaurant a try since we were in the area. They are located at 2604 Long St. (at its intersection with 26th Street). The New Orleans Extension has daily lunch specials in addition to the regular menu of sandwiches and plates. We both decided to try a sandwich (prepared on your choice of French Roll or Bun). Wayne selected Ham and Cheese ($5.50), while I chose the Oyster sandwich ($6.15). There are no “sides” served with the sandwich. Drinks are bottled or canned from coolers along the front wall. There was a bit of a wait as each sandwich is cooked and prepared fresh. The sandwiches are quite large, with plenty of condiments. We were both impressed with the taste, as they were delicious. It was probably one of the best oyster sandwiches I have ever eaten. I would go back just for that sandwich. Wayne said the ham was warm, making the cheese slightly melted. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_107173.asp

I wouldn't imagine a ham and cheese would be their speciality

Definitely not! But it was a good sandwich according to Wayne.
