Have you tried The Big Table just down the street from La Costa. I am told by usually reliable sources that it is exactly that; not fancy just good.

I am a devotee of Typhoon of Tokyo. It has been around forever. You get a lot of food for the money and it's tasty ... If you don't mind driving into Redbankistan, it's not to be missed.

Teriyaki House > Typhoid of Tokyo....but the Typhoid is hella closer so it gets the convenience vote.

There is a new Japanese restaurant on Hixson Pike called Little Tokyo Express. It is similar to Typhoon and the portions are huge. It is in the old Wendy's building near the Golden Corral.

Both Typhoon and Tokyo Express are good deals for folks looking for a meal heavy on the rice, light on the veggies and very light on the protein. Not recommended for diabetics or others on a low carb diet for sure.

I second Milano's. Their fettucini alfredo makes my peepee drip in anticipation. It really was a pleasant surprise to eat there the first time and have it be so good.

I don't live on that side of the river for certain legal reasons, but I still make the trip over there a few times before work to enjoy Milano's.
As for Baby Typhoon at Former Wendy, I'll see about stopping in next time I Daywalk.
I have no Carb Qualms, and love me some bitter-sweet rice sauce. On me. In me. Around me.

I, too, like Milano's, however I do have to voice one complaint.
They need to make are real salad! That bag'o salad crap they use with one slice of tomato sans cheese does not fly with me. Damn. Maybe a crouton or something!
Luckily, the pasta is pretty damn good.

We ate at P. F. Changs at Hamilton Place on Thursday night. It was expensive, but damn it was wonderful. www.pfchangs.com/I highly recommend the Chengdu Spiced Lamb. mmmmmm...lamb.

P.F. Chang's is more pretentious than 80% of Guinness drinkers...and that's saying something.
I bet in China...right now...someone has opened a 'R. Kroc's' gourmet hamburger restaurant that sells Big Macs for $94.00.

You have hit it Stray, Chang's is at the minimum pretentious. But even worse the bastards put so much ice in a cocktail glass there's room for about 2 ounces of drink, making it an extemely expensive cocktail figured on a per ounce basis.
Gonna eat lunch today at El Costa myself.

Yes, pretentious and expensive, but the food was amazing.

I will be honest when I say that I have seriously never heard the food at PF Chang's described as 'amazing.'
I know you're a food dude, and everyone has their own tastes, and all of this BS is highly subjective...but I've never heard anyone describe a mid-tier Chinese/American chain store that way.
(Not saying it wasn't...I'm sure it was quite good...just saying...Amazing?)

The rice that is served with the meal at Chang's (both white and brown) is bland and tasteless. I understand the fried rice is very good, but you can't order it in place of the other - it's an entree. I also would prefer they serve soup by the cup rather than the huge family sized "share" bowls. The only soup you can get by the cup is Hot 'n Sour. I would like to try the others, but if it's just one or two people, and you don't agree on the soups, it's too much - both price and size.

I cannot vouch for the entire menu, but what I ate was. So order that. Or not. Whatever.
Oooo, shiny.

What I found amazing was the Chile Verde I had at La Costa yesterday. It was quite different than any I've had before. While still having the basic astringent flavor of tomatillos it had layers of tastes of spices and herbs. Even better than Mrs. Bear makes.

Agrees with Janet and Stray about PFChang's If I can't have fried rice with my dish I don't want it...but, I don't want just fried rice.
If your ever in Cleveland and like Japanese there is a hole in the wall place called the Hibachi Grill that is very good. Especially their scallops with fried rice.
