Why the mild version? Is the hot version not so good? Or too hot for ya?

Bill, that is the only kind we get but I like the hot the best. It's not too hot for me but, I am weird that way. I like their green salsa too.

I reckon I will now be considered a "salsa snob" but I place store bought salsa in the same catagory as mass brewed American beer made using adjuncts such as rice. I much prefer to make salsa from scratch, if fresh tomatos are not available there are some very good products in jars on the shelves in the store. All other ingredients are almost always fresh in the produce section.

Yes, but the way I inhale that stuff, the quality of homemade would be lost.Salsa is another thing I like to add to cottage cheese with the jaleopenos I know....weird

Nah, not a snob. But you must have a heck of a lot of free time.

I still like that jug of salsa from Sam's. I add some chopped jalapeƱos just to kick it up a notch.

Free time, not damn much, weekdays anyway. I am at work about 11 hours a day usually, with drive time I'm out of the house 12 hours a day. However, to make a bowl of salsa doesn't take 10 minutes if the ingredients are on hand, and we almost always have jarred tomatos, onions, cilantro, garlic and hot peppers in stock.

I went to the Bi Lo. The picante sauce was in the Mexican, but I found the salsa right next to it, near the floor. I got the medium, and it is just right hot...almost too hot, but excellent!! Leaves a pleasant type of burning on the tongue. Stray, I can anticipate your response!

I'll need to try that brand... I'm not much for making food, so I'd probably find some way to burn the salsa I do love me some chips and salsa though! Great snack

I have been a big fan of Herdez salsa casera for years. Excellent stuff for a commercial product. You can also find it in those tiny cans in the Mexican food section along with Mex packed jalapenos and stuff. Of course the jars are better, at least to me. Herdez also has a salsa taquaria (I think that is the name) that is a lot like the tomatilla salsa you can get at some of the area Mexican restaurants.
I am generally a big pico de gallo fan, though it has to be fresh stuff.

We tried the Herdez salsa medium while camping today and for once, BillVol was right about something! It's easy to find - my friend bought it at Bi Lo and it was just perfect (with Dos Equis and margaritas of course!)
It lasted a whole five minutes on the table and it was gone. The kids and adults alike enjoyed it.
Thanks Bill!

I'll agree, it's good. The medium is about what I would call a mild, as for heat, but the tomatoes taste fresh and are crisp, not mushy, and it isn't overburdened with cilantro. The local Bi-Lo doesn't carry any hotter than medium, but if they have a hot I'd like to give it a try.

Pa's salsa is really good and it is made right around here somewhere.

Worm's assessment is dead on. The fact that it wasn't drowned in cilantro was the first plus. The medium was just fine for me and the kids. I'm not sure I'd want to go any hotter than that. It was just right.

The salsa in the produce dept. of The Fresh Market is very close to " homemade". Very refreshing flavor!!

Worm do you shop at the Hwy 58 Bi-Lo that's close to 153? The Bi Lo up in Harrison has the hot version. I picked up some of the medium tonight and checked just for you.

Yeah, the crappy Bi-Lo. We sometimes make the drive to the better one, but sometimes it isn't worth the extra 30 minutes on the round trip.

Herdez is carried at the Wal-Mart here in West Lafayette. I purchased the mild, but we haven't opened it yet. However, I also bought the green tomatillo salsa and it is absolutely WONDERFUL!
