The last time I got a deli at Glen Gene, they nuked it. I haven't been back. As far as I know, the closet place to get what you're talking about is in Farragut.

The last time I was in Glen Gene's my sandwich was steamed, not nuked.
I think you can get a steamed sandwich at Daved's Deli in Middle Valley.
And nothing good, not even steamed sandwiches, has ever come out of Knoxville.

Anne Braly's column in the TASTE section of today's (4July) TFP talks about steamed sandwiches. www.timesfreepress.com/absolutenm/templates/life.aspx?articleid=17691&zoneid=10In addition to the restaurants listed earlier, Glen-Gene's, Daved's DEli, Shapiro's in St Elmo, The Pickle Barrel, O'Dell's Grocery in Tiftonia and others are mentioned Edited because my fingers and spelling don't stay together.

You know, I remember the steamed sandwiches in Knoxville from the five years I lived there. But I've never once pined for them in the years since I moved back. Wonder why that is?

I have no idea Worm. I don't pine for them either, but if I'm in the Knoxville area, I'll sometimes go to Sam & Andy's West for one.
However, my cousin, who went to UT at the same time I did, does pine for them. The last football game he went to he bought seven of them, ate one and took six back to West Tennessee to savor.

I'd be afraid they wouldn't last thru the trip sitting in a hot car that long....

His vehicle has air conditioning. Plus, he had a cooler.
