Shoney's are coming back to 5 different locations including east ridge and east brainerd. Let's hope that they get rid of Kacey's.

Stray, I wouldn't step foot in Kacey's for a million dollars. I hope that Shoney's takes back thier old building from Kacey. Since Shoney's shut down on 153, there has been a few restaurants there. The only reason why the old folks would go to Kacey's is that they don't have any taste buds left.

I agree with that ... only reason I was there cause thats where mom wanted to go and I made the mistake of letting her pick

There's a lot of food....that's edible...but there's not a single thing that stands out as 'good.' It's like very mediocre cafeteria food.
Stand it up beside Jenkins on Ringgold Road and Jenkins stomps a buffet mudhole in its ass.

Yeah I had the same reaction as Stray. It was edible, but mediocre. I went the one time and I haven't been back. I haven't tried Jenkins but with Stray to recommend it, I think I'll give it a try for Libertycon Weekend.
And where did this info come from that Shoney's is reopening the closed stores? I've searched for news reports and such and come up blank. Even their corporate website makes no mention of it.

There was an annoucement in today's paper in the lifestyle section, Dave. The one in brainerd will be at Shallowford Drive and one is opening up on Ringgold road soon.

Actually, I drove down Ringgold Road today and the Shoneys appears to be open.

They can come back to Red Bank. The Pario's didn't stay open very long. (Let's hope they fixed the roof and the A/C)

I also ate at Kaceys on 153 once and haven't been back. I also walked into the Shoneys there and the smell of rancid grease drove me out and I never went back. Even I never had enough nerve to go to whatever that Asian place was there. That building needs to be destroyed.

I second the recommendation on Jenkins' Restaurant. The food is really good home style vittles. Don't expect too much from the decor. It looks kinda like an old Knights of Columbus hall. The owners are nice people too.
I drive past the Shoney's on Ringgold Road almost everyday and I don't think it has been closed within the past year and a half. It ought to be though, it pretty well sucks. If they are opening a new one, more the better.

It was in the paper again today, a full-page ad. I don't think they are opening new ones, it said "grand re-opening" and had different dates for each of the ones when they were celebrating their grand re-opening. I only looked at it briefly, but what I got out of it was they remodelled them and say the service is better. Something like that. The one on Shallowford Village Drive has been there for a while, and has been open. And they are on the list of the grand re-opening celebration.

I don't get it. The Shallowford Village and Ringgold Road locations haven't been closed. I thought maybe they had remodeled, but we went to the one at Shallowford - and it is not remodeled! Same ole, same ole. The service wasn't any better either.

- Strawberry Pie
- Hot Fudge Cake
- Thanksgiving Buffet
The only three reasons to go to Shoney's. These must be "We're Still Here" ads.

Okay, here is the ad in today's paper, page B3. It says Re-Grand Opening, ribbon cutting ceremony with local hotshots. Monday June 25th - Shallowford Village Drive; Tuesday, June 26th - East Ridge (Ringgold Road); Wednesday, June 27th - Cleveland Hwy (Dalton); Friday, June 29th - Walnut Ave (Dalton); Friday, June 29th - Ft. Oglethorpe
Free kids buffet, balloons for kids, dessert from 4pm-9pm, buy one get one free express lunch buffet 11am-2pm
It also says "service you can trust" and "we've turned this place upside down".
That is it. I am not interested enough to go check it out, but if anybody wants to, there it is.

Who are the 'local hotshots' that have signed on for the dubious honor of this trailer park photo-op?

Dunno. Do we even have anybody local that can be considered a hotshot?
I don't get the ad either. It is the same ones they have had, I was assuming it was that they were remodeled but that does not seem to be the case.

They can come back to Red Bank. The Pario's didn't stay open very long. (Let's hope they fixed the roof and the A/C) Pario's should never have moved. Once they were in the bigger building, the service sucked and the food portions became smaller. I stopped going there about a month after they opened.

Did the Shoney's on Walnut Ave ever close? I was there only a few months ago; it was going like gangbusters. Or chairbusters, judging by the average weight of the buffet patrons...

Back in the early '60s, Shoney's in yankee land had a product called a Brawny Lad. It was simple. Rye bun, decent full-sized meat patty, and one nice, big 1/4 - 3/8" slice of (Vidalia?) onion. Scrumptious.
Dang, that was almost half a century ago. Sheesh.

Back when I ate like normal people, Bea's was wonderful! Plus, you never knew who you would see there. Shoney's had a great breakfast bar. Duff's (Stuff's) on Lee Highway had a good buffet. Darras's veal parmeseon (sp) and Leonard's burgers were the best! I've been a veggie for 20 years....construction paper is the only flavored food I eat now. (Well, that's not true, but humorous to people like Stray, who I know would have commented as such!)

Bea's is not what it used to be.
The Kasey / K.C. (don't remember which is which) on 153 sucked. Not tried the one on Lee Highway, and am not likely to, either.
