While visiting relatives in Chickamauga recently, we stopped at The Melon Patch Southern Diner located at 2697 Johnson Road. It was our first visit. The night we were there the place was packed, and they do have a lot of tables!
The menu offers most everything a Southerner could possibly want. Included on the Daily Specials list were such items as Granny’s Homemade Chicken & Dumplings ($6.49), Granny’s Famous Chicken Casserole ($6.99) and Country Fried Steak with white gravy ($5.99).
Granny must be a busy person as on the Daily Features list we have Granny’s Most Requested Meatloaf Plate ($6.99), along with Down-South Favorite Country Ham with Red Eye Gravy ($7.29) and Fried Mississippi Catfish filets fried in “secret batter” and served with hushpuppies, slaw and fries ($8.99).
