My father called "store bought whole milk" "Sweet Milk" as oppossed to "Blue Jon or Skim Milk" or "Butter Milk". Before the recent introduction of of 1% and 2% milk Whole Milk with a 4% butterfat was the primary milk sold and it was what the kids would drink in school.

There are several differnt comfort foos that I like. 1) Cheddar cheese and saltines with yellow mustard 2) Kraft Mac and Cheese 3) Cottage cheese by itself with season salt or either pears or pineapple 4) Bacon, eggs, and grits

JIT what is "Sweet milk" are you talking about for ex. Borden's sweet condensed milk? Sweet milk is milk that hasn't soured. Buttermilk is a milk that has been soured. Borden's sweet condensed milk hasn't soured but I wouldn't refer to it as sweet milk. I would call it canned milk. You would probably just call sweet milk milk or whole milk. The reason I called it sweet milk was to differentiate from the buttermilk my dad liked his cornbread mixed with.

My mother would make me Campbells Tomato soup with milk and grilled cheese sandwiches when I was home sick. I'll never forget that. Nowadays I think my fave comfort food is my wifes baked scratch mac & cheese, as it happens it's much like mom used to make. Warmed up the next day it's really killer. Or maybe a meatloaf sandwich on good white/sourdough bread with Hellmans Mayo and lettuce for crunch.

Visit here, some...usually don't post, but had to on this one......Mashed Potato Casserole, Macaroni and Cheese and white birthday cake from Jackson or Federal Bake Shops!
Scarlett, do you share your recipe for your grandmother's Banana Nut Bread?
Thanks!

I fall into the toasted cheese and tomato soup category too. To that I add the homemade chicken soup that my grandmother made. Grandparents were miserly and no part of the chicken went to waste. Lots of good homegrown veggies in it.
BTW Limited, that stew recipie looks great! Thanks!

Sweet milk is what most country folks called milk, back in the day. I still say I want sweet milk. But I am probably a lot older and country than most posters on here.

Technically not 'food', but instead a drink: All this talk about milk!
I love a tall, cold glass of milk. I used to prefer whole milk, but now I think 2% tastes fabulous! (I usually keep skim milk in my fridge though.) I've always loved milk... yes, very comforting.

Chiliman (and everyone else, I guess)...you are welcome for the recipe. It made me want some so bad, I'm going to make some either Monday or Tuesday. Now if it would just dip down to about 45 degrees, the mood would be right.

Homemade macaroni and cheese. Or, meatloaf and lumpy mashed potatoes with green beans or carrots. Or, cornbread with real butter and buttermilk biscuits with honey--I love the bread basket at Cracker Barrells. Giant country-style breakfasts that come with pancakes on the side. Corn on the cob slathered with butter and lots of black pepper. Here's a heart clogger thanks to my daddy--liverwurst and velveeta on white bread with Miricle Whip... if I hadn't gotten hooked on that as a kid, I'd have never eaten it as an adult because it is kind of yukky when you see it and smell it.
And, yummy grilled cheese and tomato soup, too!! Or bean and ham soup with that cornbread.

Ooooooh...I haven't had liverwurst in a long time. I like it on Pumpernickle bread with mustard and Muenster cheese.

Does tequila count as a comfort food? I think that is as close as I get.

Oh no!® Not Miracle Whip! You can't put that on a sandwich, it says so right on the jar: Salad Dressing. Might as well pour a bit of Russian French on there!

Coca Cola is really probably the closest I get. But if I had to choose actual food, one might be halupkies (cabbage rolls stuffed with beef, and covered with tomato sauce) *drool*

I prefer pierogies, but "halupkies" are good, also.
