I see where Atlanta is going to be getting upwards of 50 El Pollo Loco's. Let's hope they migrate up to Dalton and then on into Chattanooga soon.

We have one of those in Dalton, right down the street from where I work, but I don't think it is a chain.
They serve either a half-chicken or whole chicken meal with tortillas, Pintos with cilantro and ham, cabbage (raw, shredded), jalapenos, two different types of salsas, limes and onions.
It is really good.

Yum, couldn't agree more. I love their food. After we get them here, we can work on getting a Shakey's Pizza Parlor back and I'd be happy. ;D

Of course now my stomach is rumbling wanting that food now. Hope they keep opening places and make it to Nooga though ;D (the hell if they'll ever make it to the land of clams and grinders }

I don't think they existed when I left CA, over 12 years now. The concept sounds great, I look forward to trying it.

That depends hon where in Ca were you-I was in Northern Ca and they most definitely were in at least one location in Modesto. Not sure about the other places but I'll be damned if I don't remember them in the Sepulveda area as well.

The one I have been to was off of Sepulveda south of LA, around Manhattan Beach. Wonderful food, fast.

Yeah...I'm not sure exactly where the one I'm thinking of was exactly-only that it was around Sepulveda High School and it was oh.....between 1984-1986 timewise? That chain has been around alot longer than many think.

Ah, Shakey's. That place provided one of the most entertaining date options around when it opened, back when I was young. There was no liquor by the drink, nor riverfront development nor any of the entertainment options now available.
I liked the old movies they would show. Hard to beat watching the Three Stooges whilst eating pizza and drinking beer.

Yep, the pizza was good and the movies made you laugh your head off. Shakey's had two locations up here. Across the bridge from the old Brainerd Twin theaters and near Wendy's on Hixson pike.

I remember EL Polo Loco being all over San Diego when I lived there from '87 to '90. So I have no idea what part of the state tnbear was in that he didn't at least hear of them.
Ltrhcsd1, the menu you describe for the place in Dalton is what I remember to be the offerings of the El Polo Loco chain in San Diego. I, myself, never tried them because they advertised their chicken as being marinated in lime and tequila and I'm not very fond of tequila.
I remember the Shakey's on Brainerd but I don't recall the one in Hixson. IIRC, the one on Brainerd shut down in the mid-'70's and later became a Chinese place called "The Golden Dragon" or something close to that. I remember going to the Shakey's once as a kid and I recall it as being somewhat run-down.

HD, it's now a realitor office. If I am not mistaken both of the Shakey's shut down in the mid 70's which is a shame since both of them was usually doing a good business.

I was born and lived mostly in Humboldt County CA, which is somewhat notorious for something other than fast food and a far piece from even Modesto (which I consider Central CA). I did live in the Wastelands (LA and environs) from 1978 to 1980, don't remember Pollo Loco from then but I don't remember a lot of things from then either.

Where in Dalton is the El Pollo Loco-like chicken restaurant in Dalton? What is the name of it?
There is a great Mexican restaurant on Walnut called "Steak Ranchero" (i think that's the name). A hole in the wall but great food and service - but no booze :-(

A hole in the wall but great food and service - but no booze :-( The restaurant is on Grimes Street right off Murray Ave. It changed its name to El Pollo Allegre last month but it originally was El Pollo Loco. I have driven by there every day and never noticed they changed the sign. I have thought a couple of times about stopping by the Steak Ranchero for lunch to try it out. Now I will have to get my work buddy to check it out with me.

You will have to le me know if you like it. I have been to Los Reyes, Tijuana's and Los Pablos and I think Steak Ranchero is by far superior. Have you been to any other good Mexican restaurants in Dalton?

Justin, did you eat at El Pollo Loco, if so, what was your opinion? No, not yet. I'm out here working and after the day is over I end up going back to my room, eating a sandwich and falling into bed. I will have lunch there tomorrow. There is another one on Sepulveda at National and that is right in the middle of where I will be at lunch tomorrow.

I tried it yesterday for lunch. The chicken is great. It's grilled, not fried. I had the two piece meal which came with two sides. I chose the house salad and Spanish rice. I wasn't too thrilled with the rice but the house salad was pretty good for a fast food salad.

Have you been to any other good Mexican restaurants in Dalton? El Sombrero on Hamilton down next to The Filling Station about a block down. Good food there too...
