I actually do try to eat healthier than I used to, but I'm also not going to be a fanatic and suddenly give up everything that tastes good just on the chance that I could live a few extra years.
Oh, and I finally got my coupons.

Are the coupons good "Only at YOUR 23rd Street Hardee's"?

No, they are valid anywhere. Which is good, since I won't be going back to the 23rd St location again.

The "complain-and-get-coupons" approach is a good one. William and I did that with Captain D's back in Georgia one time. We decided to eat out on "Employee Mischief Night," apparently. First they told us they were out of nearly everything we tried to order, and then wouldn't give us our drinks while we were waiting for the food, saying they had to keep a cup count. They also took drive-thru orders while foot traffic waited in a line that stretched all the way back to the front door. Using the location number from the receipt, I went online and wrote up the whole sad story. We got a letter, coupons, e-mails and a phone call, and the coupons, as I recall, were something like $20 per person. I mean, we got the treatment! We also had the store manager groveling over us next time we went back. The manager hadn't been there on the night in question. We knew her from our frequent visits and could tell she was mortified. No more bad visits after that one. I'm sure the company has to track how many coupons they give out in response to complaints and it adds up.
Gary, I hope you find a Hardees with better standards. This is a good opportunity to scope them out and report back to us...

One time I complained to McDonald's (Lee Highway) about the fact that EVERYTIME I went there and ordered ice cream they NEVER had it. It was always "our machine is being cleaned", our machine is broken", "it's out of season", etc. I didn't realize it was ever out of season. Anyway - what do you think they sent me? Coupons for free ice cream! Something they never had!

Janet, that is priceless! Gary, maybe you could make or buy orange juice and keep it at home. Fill a travel cup or paper cup before you go to work and save money and time...plus have oj the way you like it....thawed.

If you parked and went in in person, they served you. Drive-thru customers get the shaft so often with these places. It's a good deterrent to our bad behavior.

No wonder they were always out of food. Maybe et45 is responsible for the lack of ice cream at that MacDonald's someone was complaining about, a short time ago?

Someone obviously has never seen me. I am far from being "fat" and exercise every day. I just don't buy into the whole "never eat anything that isn't healthy" type of self-punishment that so many health nuts get so sanctimonious about.

There has been a recent extensive study showing that the government's healthy diet has no significant health benefits to post menopausal women.

I've heard that there's also been an extensive study resulting in the conclusion that governmentally-sanctioned/supported studies are negative in effect to the health of all US citizens.

Reminds me of that overused, but fun, saying ~ "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolatein one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, and screaming 'DAMN, what a ride!' " LOL

Eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die......
I'd rather eat wisely, drink little and be content for the next 70 years, we'll be burying the partiers.

I don't eat fast food that often, actually. In fact, you can usually tell when I have eaten fast food because I bitch about it here.

You ever see a healthy looking health nut?
I do beer, cigarettes, coffee, fatty fast foods, not enough sleep, stressful work environment and exercise all in moderation and I am the very picture of fine health.
But I still check the obits for mine every morning.

Then there was Jim Fixx, who is credited with popularizing jogging and running as health measures. He had written best-selling books on the benefits of running, but died in the middle of a run at the age of 52, victim of extensive atherosclerosis.
He did have early heart disease history in his family, however, and in his early adulthood was overweight and out of condition.

That is my age now. I walk and sometimes ride a bike for exercise but I no longer run and haven't for the past ten years. My knees can't take it any more. I'm overweight and take medication to keep my blood pressure under control but all of my blood work shows that I don't suffer from problems with cholesterol or have any other indications of heart disease. I eat what I want but control the amount I eat. I also like a little variety so I stop at Wendy's and Burger King at times to break up the monotony of McDonald's.
