By Lauren Gregory Staff Writer The Chattanooga Police Department's latest academy class is defying the odds, having managed to make it through six weeks of what cadets call "extremely difficult" training without losing a member. "It's the sixth week, and we haven't lost anyone yet, which is really unusual," said Deputy Chief Skip Vaughn, director of training for the department. "Usually, people are dropping out right now," said Officer Ricky Ballard, an instructor for the 23-member cadet class, which includes two firefighters training to be arson investigators. "We've got a pretty good group here." If all 21 police cadets complete the academy, they will be placed in a 16-week field officer training program, which would put them on track to fill some of the department's 33 openings for officers. www.timesfreepress.com/absolutenm/templates/local.aspx?articleid=12771&zoneid=77

My academy actually holds the known record; 30 even, no drop-outs, everyone graduated, and no one left for a year and a half (one quit after 6 mos., but returned for another four years or so). We're now becoming the management-era (I'm one of two promotee's, but it's a start) but it's sad to see them surprosed no one has quit after '6 weeks'.
Thank God for low expectations.
*Sigh*
