In a little over three weeks it will have been two years since Tony Pope killed my best friend Andrea and her two children (Brianna and Christian) in Hixson. I was just reading the news articles here on the Chattanoogan and read about the sentence that George Hughes got for the shooting at Wal-Mart. Fifty-five years! Wow! No one was killed. Was it because he shot at police officers?
I always wonder when I read the sentences that these criminals get and it never ceases to amaze me how Tony Pope can brutally murder his girlfriend Susan by beating her to death with a frying pan, hitting her so many times that the skillet broke into pieces and get 15 years, only serving a little over five years. How can this be? How can that be something that can just be swept under a rug? That monster was let out to terrorize and murder three more innocent lives less that five years later.
Please don't misunderstand what I am saying. I in no way condone anyone shooting at or shooting anyone. I just think the punishment should fit the crime and we as a society should not allow this sort of thing to continue to happen. Someone can be caught with meth and get more time than Tony did.
