Following a lengthy disciplinary hearing Friday afternoon, Police Chief Freeman Cooper terminated Laurence Goodine, a patrolman with the Chattanooga Police Department. Goodine has been on personal leave while the Internal Affairs investigation was conducted. Allegations of theft, improper search, improper procedure, filing false reports and untruthfulness were all sustained against the officer. Goodine had two years of service as a patrolman with the department. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_105457.asp

He appeared at one of our neighborhood meetings (National Night Out, early last August, to be specific); seemed very personable, etc. Never saw him again after that. Guess he was busy...

Sad stuff. It always bugs me that a doctor or a nurse who gets busted for using drugs gets to go to a special treatment center. They are rarely prosecuted but if a non-medical staff member of a health care institution gets caught swiping the meds they are usuall fullly prosecuted.
Will this guy be arrested for the theft?

Pending, from what I've heard. (The evidence in this case was sufficient for internal standards, but the standards under law are different, and more strict.)
