So just a thread on beer.
I sit here on a Friday and both kids are otherwise occupied so I am sipping a Terrapin Rye Pale Ale. Man I love this beer. I user have a sixer every other week. It is my favorite Georgia Micro. I like the sweetwater IPA and 420 Pale Ale, but they aren't as good IMO.
In other beer news I've noticed that Big River has started bottling Vienna Style Lager and all I can say is woohoo! I've had a couple of sixers since they went live with that brew. It isn't great but it is a sweet change of pace. Really mellow but flavorful lager beer. Tis worth the trip up from Rocky Face to pick up a six of those now and again.
So tell me what kind of beer are you sippin' on and do you have any beer news.

Terrapin Rye P A is a wonderful beer and has been aregular on my personal beer list for sexeral years. I was happy to hear that they have finally been able to get their own facility going in Athens. Previously all their product was contract brewed under Spikes supervision.
My Winter specials, of which I have just a couple of bottles left, have been Sweetwater Happy Endings imperial stout at 9%, Sierra Nevadas Bigfoot barleywine Style Ale at 9.6% and a very special treat 2007 Old Stock Ale from North Coast Brewery in Fort Bragg CA checking in at a healthy 11.7%. This last is just an awesome quaff, not overly hoppy but fully flavored ale made to be aged a bit. All of these are/were available at Total Wines & Liquors (I think that's the name) on Barret Pkwy in Kennesaw. I hope to get back there soon for the Spring selections.

I've had the Happy Ending Stout. And it was really good. I actually picked that up at a liqour store down in Alpharetta where I work a couple of days a week.

Beer is for people who can't handle whiskey. Whiskey is for people who don't have time to drink a lot of beer. My main beer is Sam Adams Boston Lager with a strong second being Dos Equis Amber. I have also fournd a warm spot in my heart for Terrapin Rye Pale Ale and SweetWater's 420 Pale Ale but I'm not a big fan of SweetWater's IPA. When I'm in the northeast I find that I order Yuengleng Lager most of the time.

Has anyone else noticed that Budweiser stock drops when I go "On Call"?
I'll post the "On Call" schedule for the inside traders out there. For a fee.

Overly chilled beer is indeed a major sin, except for a cold lager or pale ale on a summer day. I prefer beer at more of a celler temperature, like from the beer engine at Big River.
Yes Rogue, that Dogfish Head 120 minute is a killer quaff, as is every beer I've had from them.

I like the 60 minute IPA. I haven't had the 90 or 120 minute IPAs. I'd try one if it were free, but I'm not a big fan of high gravity barley wine style beers.

Why not just get an ice-cold Gennessee Beer?
"Gennessein' is believin'... you can count on Genny's taste, cause she's brewed in just one place... Gennesseein' is believin'!"

Mostly Guinness. When out west, I love Ballast Point Sea Monster Stout. Two Olmegegs and it's hard to feel your face.

Where to begin, with all the wonderful beers in the world? Lets jump to Canada (and save my American favs for last).
Unibroue brewery is da bomb. Brewing some seriously heavy hitting (9% + alcohol) beers, Unibroue's product line up is damned impressive. Don de Deiu is a wonderfully grassy, chewy triple fermented wheat beer. La Fin du Monde (another triple) is an incredible lager, best server ice cold. For the fru-fru cider crowd, try their Éphémère apple tasting stuff.
Moving on to Africa of all places, you've gotta try a Tusker. It tastes like Foster's would if Foster's didn't suck ass. Produced by Kenya Brewery, the lager is named in memory of one of the breweries founders who was killed by a crazed bull elephant. Don't drink and fuck with elephants.
And now on to the Republic of Montenegro, to ''the city of beer and steel"... Nikšić! Another lager, but a tad less hoppy than Tusker, it's easy to drink too much. Believe me, I know. I've drunk with Irishmen, Scotts, Russians, Germans, Swedes, Frat Boys... Do not ever - EVER - try to out drink a Bosnian. You will not win
On to Belgium: Too many to even start on, from Chimay to the Lambics, dubbel, tripel, trappist and pils... Try Ale Delirium Tremens for starters, a lovely bubbly pale ale. La Chouffe is another nice beginner Belgian... But do try some ot the monk's darker offerings, like a La Trappe Tripel.
And before I get too intoximacated to type, I'll jump back to the good ol' USA
The Stone Brewing Company.
First off, their Ruination IPA. India Pale Ales are by definition a "bit" hoppy and bitter. Saying that Ruination IPA is "a bit hoppy and bitter" is a bit like saying John Holmes had a bit of a winkey... And it will still feel the same on your esophagus.
now, let's move along to:
Arrogant Bastard Ale. The ad copy is as good as the beer:
This is an aggressive beer. You probably won't like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory - maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it's made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make a beer taste better. Perhaps you're mouthing your words as you read this
...Now at 3 Qt. 5.4Fl. Oz that's a damn beer.

Sierra Nevada ESB (Early Spring Beer)....Very good stuff. I have always liked Sierra Nevada's seasonal offerings. This one is perfect if your looking for a TON of hops....Picked up a six pack at Riverside last night. Perfect side dish to the prosciutto and spinach pizza that we got from a certain upscale grocery right around the corner.

where are you buying your beer fishpants? Most of the better Liquor stores in the Chattanooga area have at least a small selection of the higher octane beers, you've just gotta shop around to get a good selection. For the lower octane brews there's Greenlife - a great eclectic collection, but they're damn proud of their products price-wise. Your best bet is to head down to East Ridge and check out Mac's Highway Market and the Party Mart. I have no clue why, but those two little redneck dives have the best selection of microbrews in town, nicely priced. Oooh, I forgot to mention Rogue Brewing Company. Excellent catalog of beverages, from their Yellow Snow Ale to the seasonal Santa's Private Reserve. Any of their Morimoto line are well worth sampling if you can find them. Otherwise, just grab a sixer of Dead Guy Ale and enjoy.

Amazing that a beer made from wheat would have a grassy flavour.
Beer technology must be getting much better.
Astounding.
I didn't misspell flavour as I was trying to be a word snob to fit in with the beer snobs!

Amazing that a beer made from wheat would have a grassy flavour. Not really, if you know anything about beer. Try a decent Weizenbock or a Kristallweizen and get back to me when you actually have a clue... Beer technology must be getting much better.
No, beer drinkers just keep getting dumber. Astounding. (see above) I didn't misspell asshole as I was trying to be an asshole snob to fit in with the assholer snobs!
