I think I'm going to have to try the Imperial Russian Stout vs. Arrogant Bastard Ale. I might have a new favorite in the Russian, then again I might fall down and hurt myself trying to compare them ;D

Although British spelling in a U.S. setting is not always snobbish; SKB uses such spelling quite a lot, and calling her any kind of snob would be intolerably inaccurate. (And hazardous. *snerk*) Speaking of SKB, she has been scarce for awhile. I miss her, and Ares.Heh.....my use of that spelling is due to two reasons-one my mother and I lived with a brit when I was younger and I picked up on his spelling both from him and from bbc tv-two I discovered the delight in the fact that teachers could -not- tell me that my spelling of certain words were incorrect as they were generally in the dictionary and just to be an insufferable pain in their ass I was generally -more than happy- to look up the words to prove my point. -snerk- I've been around much more lately-but you know how real life goes especially when you're trying to get the grown child the hell OUT of the house Back to subject-I like beer well enough though I do NOT like warm beer not even guiness (yeah yeah if I drink it I drink it cold heresy I know it) and I tend to prefer whatever beer I am consuming to have some lime juice in it as I like the taste of the two combined though it's not a neccesary thing like the temperature issue.

I prefer my beer for the most part at a cool celler temperature, especially for interesting, well crafted micro-brews, the flavors come out much better when the beer is cool rather than cold. I really enjoy beer, especially the House IPA, on hand-pull at Big River. Mass produced lagers, both American and Mexican, are good ice cold with a squeeze of lime on a hot humid day.

So I picked up 4 pack of North Coast Brewing Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout last night on the way home from work. I'm not a huge fan of stouts, but I do like them. Well I really like this stout. Excellent beer. Great head with good lacing on the glass. Smell a bit sweet and has a real smooth stout after taste that isn't bitter or overpowering. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. I picked it up at Trouts liqour store in Jasper, Georgia.

Make sure you are home for the night. It is 9% alcohol by volume and it had my asleep in my recliner after 3 of them. Had I read the label ahead of time I'd probably have stuck with 2.

Love beer, but can't drink stout-and believe me, I've tried. It reminds me of motor oil

But I am with ya on the stout thing!

I got a beer at the Fresh Market I really enjoyed called "Hobgoblin." I usually buy Guiness, but was in the mood for something different. It was really good. A bit expensive ($5 for like a large bottle), but worth trying. Dark similar to Guiness, but a bit smoother.

There is a new beer store in Riverview next to the liquor store (Under Los Marguritas) They are said to have the most extensive kinds of beer in Chattanooga. It's called "The Beer Run".

If it's cold.....I'll drink it. Keystone Light if I'm going to drink a lot. Warsteiner Dunkel, Red Stripe, Blue Moon if I'm going to have a few. However, I would never discriminate.

I had two bottles of McEwan's Scotch Ale the other night. Very, very good. On the label it said the alcohol content was 8%. I knew there was some reason I fell asleep after the second one. Have to ration those beers out carefully.

Why Jasper has two warehouse liqour stores within 5 miles of each other I have no idea.

I visited The Beer Run yesterday and a nice conversation with a fellow who seemed to be the owner. They have a decent selection, but nothing overly exciting. He is looking into getting more micro-brews and cutting down on the mass produced stuff. We also spoke about them carrying a larger selection of high gravity American micro-brews in the liquor store. I think that this could well become a very good place to shop if he does what he says he's going to.

First post...glad to finally find a good Chattanooga forum...
Especially glad to find a thread about BEER, one of my favorite subjects. Definitely a beer snob, but wouldn't know it at the moment due to the can of PBR sittin' next to me.
Love trying all kinds of beer, but my favorites are Impy Stouts, dark Belgians, and IPAs. Great Divide Yeti, St. Bernardus Abt 12, and Sinebrychoff Baltic Porter are three of my favorites. Also enjoy Black & Tans with Sweetwater IPA and Guinness...good stuff...drink 'em year 'round...don't need a holiday for an excuse haha...
Also want to spread the word about Beverage World/Tobacco for Less in Ft. Oglethorpe which has the best selection of fine beers I've seen in the greater Chattanooga area. Especially the high-gravity stuff and imports, bombers and 750ml's galore. Located next to the Big Lots (large AutoZone/Food Lion shopping center) on Lafayette Rd just off 2A/Battlefield Pkwy....place looks like your standard convenience store from the outside, but go in, go straight back to the beer cooler and you are greeted by a WALL of fine beers with more further down in the cooler.
Unibroue, St. Bernardus, Ommegang, Avery, Victory, Westmalle, Rochefort, Great Divide, Oskar Blues (just got in some Ten Fidy), Weyerbacher, lots of Rogue, Dogfish Head, Lagunitas, Terrapin....off the top of my head...lots more there and they are always getting new stuff in.
I'll have to check out Mack's Highway Market and Party Mart in East Ridge...always on the lookout for new beers. Love being able to enjoy TN and GA distribution without having to drive too far!

I went to the place in Fort O this morning, wnded up dropping 40+ bucks. Excellent selection, especially considering the location.
Right now I am enjoying the heck out of a bomber of Avery Hog Heaven Barleywine style ale. I also picked up a 4-pack of Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA, a sixer of Terrapin India Brown Ale, a bomber of Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Ale and a sixer of Hazed and Infused dry hopped unfiltered ale from Boulder Brewing Co. Should be a good weekend.

The Lagunitas Hop Stoopid is some really good stuff. Haven't had the Avery Hog Heaven, but their Fourteen is AMAZING. Avery's bombers also have a tendency to really knock me out too...strong stuff! Good to hear you made it down to Beverage World, hoping to get more Chattanooga beer fans aware of this place. If there is a store around here with a better selection, I'd love to know about it...
Let me know what you think of the Terrapin India Brown...I haven't tried it yet, but I really enjoy the Dogfish Head India Brown Ale. Can't go wrong with that 90-minute either....damned fine brew.

I am about to pop a 90 minute as we speak...Still bummed that we didn't make it to Rohoboth Beach this summer to track down the elusive 180 minute.
I wish Magic Hat would finally break down and start distributing near here. I had to get my "Summer Variety Show" greatest 12 pack on earth at the little shop across the street from the NOC.

I did drink one bottle of the Terrapin IBA after the Avery. It's kinda the same thing as a Barleywine, heavy malt with heavy hops. Very good, I thought it was somewhat more complex than the Avery.
After that I took a nap until the thunder woke me up. I couldn't find the alcohol content on the Terrapin, but the Avery was 9.25%.

I'll definitely try some of that Terrapin India Brown, sounds like it would suit my tastes well. btw, it should clock in at 6% ABV according to ratebeer.com
Went to Party Mart in E. Ridge today. Selection was alright, but I think I'm spoiled by Beverage World and those more lax Georgia laws for high-gravity beers...
