Alright Bluck, good work, the thread's pinned. Thanks to the moderator or Gary or whomever did this.
I'll be reporting over the weekend on my enjoyment of the rest of the brews I picked up. I have taken to resting the old liver during the week.

I'm going to KY in a couple of weeks and I'll be trying whatever I can find there. I'll have a report. Tonight it's Sam Adams Boston Ale.

Picked up some of the Terrapin India Brown at Beverage World...good stuff indeed. Give the Dogfish Head India Brown a try if you haven't yet...it's a step above the Terrapin and worth the extra $1 for the sixer. Also got another bottle of the St. Bernardus Abt 12 the other day...my god...one of the best beers I've ever had.

Well first off: Damn you, I didn't need to blow $60 today on beer! Okay, the GF did get herself a couple of nice Lambics, so it wasn't all me. But still... The place rocks, they've got the best selection of high gravity beers in the area hands down. Who would have thought that you could buy a bottle of Morimoto Soba Ale in Ft. O?.?..?... (I'll save that one for later) For tonight: Great Divide Brewing's Oak Aged Yeti. I'm not familiar with the brewery, but as of tonight I'm impressed. It pours like a thick, black syrup, with a spongy brown espresso-like head. A bit of grape on the nose, along with a hint of chocolate. Taste is like a chocolate vanilla latte, with a bit of bitter hops on the finish. The oak isn't overpowering at all, it just kinda clings to your mouth as it holds the bitter hops finish down, ties it up, and beats it into submission. Half way through the 1 pint, 6 oz. bottle I can definitely feel the warm glow of 9.5% alcohol. This one is a keeper for sure

Last night when I got home from work I popped open the bomber of Lagunitis Hop Stoopid I've been looking forward to. Good beer, but not the hop bomb I was expecting. Light to medium bodied, medium copper color with a rather fluffy off-white head. Somewhat more complex in flavor than a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, but pretty much in that CA IPA catagory.
Very drinkable, but not remarkable.

At the Recon 2008 Class Outing, held at the Smoky Mountain Brewery in Knoxville last week, I was talked into trying the Tuckaleechee Porter. Definitely tasty and a compliment to the excellent food (Maybe I'll find the time to write a detailed review of this fine restaurant!). The rest of the night, I stuck with the Mountain Light which also had an excellent flavour and quite a kick! I might just be able to be converted to a real beer drinker! Here is their Menu for those interested. I would highly recommend this establishment. Service was way above par, the appetizers were very appetizing and the main course was superb! The company was fine and the DDs got us back to the hotel in one piece. All in all, a very good relaxing stress management seminar! The place is located on the Chattanooga side of Knoxville (Turkey Creek area), just off I-40/I-75 and would take about an hour or so to get here from here.

fishpants, glad you were impressed by their selection...I know how it goes spending way more than expected when shopping there. Great Divide is an excellent brewery with Yeti being one of their flagship brews. I love imperial stouts and it's one of the best of that style available here IMO. If you like IPAs, try their Hercules Double IPA....one of the best imperial IPA's I've had. They now carry this in 12oz bottles along with the bombers. Their Titan IPA is also supposed to be top-notch, but I haven't tried it yet (but it's on the to-do list). This fall/winter, keep an eye out for their Hibernation Ale...a very unique brew that I very much enjoy and will stock up on later this year. The selection will only continue to increase at Beverage World, especially if business really starts to pick up in their fine beer department. I'm glad to hear that some of y'all have made it down there....I've been telling the owner I am trying to spread the word as much as I can. Been a loyal customer for a few years now and the place has grown a lot during this time. Recently, the owner let me peruse his distributor's list to pick out some top-notch brews to add to the shelves and I submitted a list to him yesterday, so hopefully some new beers will be coming in over the next few weeks.

Thanks 'Crash, glad to hear there's an active brewery in Knoxville again. If I get up that way I'll certainly stop in. Also happy to hear you tried some "real" beer.

They are active if a Wednesday night is any indication. I think they market their product via several other area restaurants also.

A couple of things.
Don't ever feel bad about what you enjoy crash. I happen to love American Lagers as much as the fancy stuff.
As for Porter it is interesting you should enjoy that since Porter is just a notch or so away from Stout. Porter style beer got the name because the "porters" that worked the train station in Britian would drink that sytle as their beer of choice.
Also,
I got out to Beverage World yesterday and I was mightily impressed with the beer selection. I am meeting some family friends on vacation in a couple of weeks so I stocked up for a beer trade. I got out just a tick under 90 dollars.
I got Terrapin RPA, Terrapin IBA, Highland Brewing IPA and Sweetwater 420 for the trade. (I'm getting Schlafly and Fallon Beers in return).
As for myself I got Terrapin IBA which I dearly love and I got some Dogfish Head Midas Touch.
If you have not tried Midas Touch do yourself a favor and do it. The folks at Dogfish took a clay jar from ancient Egypt that contained beer and analyzed it to determine what was in the brew and were able to reverse engineer a beer recipe. It is one of the best high gravity beers I have ever had. I don't know how to describe it. Very drinkable with bite. I did enjoyed the sweetness from the muscat grapes and saffron as a counter balance. Definitely feels warm on the way down.
You need to drink this beer. I give it a big thumbs up.

I can never feel bad about drinking beers! The porter was indeed tasty, but I doubt I would drink a six-pack of it (Which may be a good thing!) Do the porters and stouts have a higher ETOH content than regular beers? I assume so, hence the word "Stout". If the porter was a step way from the stout, I probably would step away from the stout! I feel like a real aficionado now!

Stouts and Porters are indeed siblings, with Porters originating first, and Stouts coming along later as basically Porters turned up a notch. Generally speaking in today's market, stouts have a higher alcohol content than porters, especially Imperial Stouts. Then again, there is the Baltic Porter, which is a Porter with higher alcohol content. Baltic porters are one of my favorite styles, and I really enjoy Sinebrychoff (Koff) Porter, which Beverage World does carry but are currently out of stock (thanks mostly to me, haha). Duck Rabbit makes a very highly regarded Baltic Porter, but they don't distribute it here....I love the style so much that I will likely make a little trip to N. Carolina to stock up on some. Victory's Baltic Thunder is quite good, but not as robust as the Sinebrychoff.
I'll have to try some of that Midas Touch....love the story behind it and it sounds like a very unique brew. Thanks for the recommendation.

In regard to porters they didn't work at the train station but rather loading and unload riverboats. My bad. I didn't want to pass on any bunk information though.

Beer is for people who can't handle whiskey. I cannot handle whiskey and detest beer. I like wine, personally.

I do have to give credit to Longshot! for the discovery of Modelo Negro. It's the only beer I ever actually liked.

I'll have to wait a bit before I can afford some DFH Midas Touch, but I just wanted to add that their Immort Ale (a barley wine) is an amazingly complex and delicious brew that I would highly recommend. I've got one bottle left that I intend on aging for a while to see how the character may change. Speaking of aging beers, I have a bottle of J.W. Lees Harvest Ale bottled in 1998 that I plan on enjoying this Christmas as I want to have a 10 year-old brew under my beer-drinking belt. Can't wait!

Sir, you are a true beer lover and possesed of extraordinary patience. A tip of the hat to you.
P.S. You don't happen to have 2 bottles of that brew, do you?

Thanks for the compliment, although I've only been sitting on the Harvest Ale for about a year and a half. Purchased it at Beverage World...they may have more...but I can't recall off the top of my head. If they don't, they may be able to get more, but it may be a different year vintage.
Just checked their distributor's list, and 1999-2002, '06 & '07 are in stock and available to be ordered. Again, they may still have some 1998 vintage at the store...

Schlitz and Strohs is the beer I drank when I was an eighteen year old. By the time I was 22 both were difficult to find.

Treated myself to a bottle of Rochefort 10 last night. That stuff certainly deserves it's title of one of the best in the world. Mmmmmmm Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmm! The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is right there with it IMO (although I've never done a side-by-side taste test), and is a better value @ $10/750ml vs. $6/11.2oz. I'm all about the price-to-performance ratio. 'Course dark Belgian ales are one of my favorite styles...

Next Beverage World beer review: Tiger Lager It's supposedly "the most popular beer in Singapore", mass produced by Asia Pacific Breweries (ie Heineken Asia). It's not bad, very light, and very drinkable. Other than that it has no real outstanding characteristics. It's a better brew than your average American mass produced beer, but not by much... If it was as cheap here as it is in the Asian markets I'd probably switch to it as my mass consumption beer. Unfortunately at import prices that isn't going to happen. I'll wait for the new Schlitz cobalt/thorium-g anthrax i saw you mommy and your mommy's dead

As I remember Schlitz tasted more like the can than anything else. Never did like the stuff. In those days when I was flush I drank Bud, when times were tight it was PBR's, Lucky Lager or even Beer beer.

Boulder Beer Company has a label called "Hazed and Infused Dry Hopped Ale." I picked up a six pack of it this weekend. If you like a really hoppy beer you might like this. It taste like Sam Adams with extra hops added and then filtered through hops while bottling. Good thing I like hops.
