Lets see if we can remeber some of the great old bars of years past in Chattanooga.
Some of my favories was the hitching Post, Rubys, The Sportspage (Brainerd Road next to the old Red Lobtser), Clancey O' Tooles, Yesterdays, Buckets O'Brien, Paul Grays Playmate/Playlate Club, Billy Hull's Castaways & Lions Den, Leonards on Brainerd near the Tunnels, Light Fantastic.
I know I am giving into telling my real age, but share some of your memories of these old clubs.

AH yes, the Playlate club. There are many nights I don't remember leaving that fine establishment.
Wasn't there a SportsBarn up by Leonards?
Anyone remember the Night Deposit on Brainerd near Germantown?

South Pacific on Lee Highway. Scrappys was where we would head at the end of every semester and spend all our cash we got from selling back text books...

JO JO'S on Brainerd Road, RATHSKELLER, GEORGE'S HAMBURGERS in it many locations from 8th and Georgia down to Cherry St, The Rustic Room, some people called it the Double R Bar, in North Chattanooga. What was the name of the restaurant/bar that was on Patten Parkway in the location that became YESTERDAYS After liquor by the drink was passed a group of us from work went to the Read House Tavern the first night for a drink.

Leonard's was one of my favorites. There was a dance place above the Zayre's downtown where I went dancing after my first Marathon. And someplace in the Read House. There was another bar tucked into a strip mall on Brainerd on the right, going out of the tunnels. The fact that that I can't remember the names speaks volumns.

halk3 queried: the name of the restaurant/bar that was on Patten Parkway in the location that became YESTERDAYS? That would be Edmund's, owned by the former partner in the Rathskeller, whose name I have forgotten. Ah, the Rathskeller, what times I had there, although memory is fitful about many of them.

Tuff, I'm not entirely sure you *did* leave that fine establishment. Hey, I woke up the next day in my own bed. Just don't remember how I got back home.

Like the Politics section of the forum on occasion when there's lively, informed debate, Edmunds (which was a long-term Chinese restaurant before it was a bar) & Pack's Tavern on Market St. were great spots to lift a beer with the brass from the Chattanooga Times after they'd put the paper to bed -- some of the best, most far-reaching & frank politican discussion ever in the city ....
But for a slice of the wild west & the 1800's the best bar in town was Brown's Tavern near the Highway Patrol office on Hwy 41.

Sandbar Michaelangelo's Germantown Pub Yesterday's George's had the BEST burgers when I was a kid. Didn't think of it as a bar. My mom used to talk about the Rathskellar a LOT. I think that's where I was conceived. Where was it and when did it close?

Regarding the Rathskeller, ifif asked: Where was it and when did it close? The Rathskeller was on Cherry Street, east side, on the first floor and basement of the Turner Club Building. Sixty feet or so north of Seventh Street. Founded by Herr Albert Schlickling (sp?) in the late 1930's, it closed for good late December 1971. From 1965 until it closed, the Rat, as we called it, was my home away from home. The Rat fell victim to Progress in the form of the parking garage for the Justice Building housing the county jail and some courts. Bad exchange, in my view. But nobody asked me.

Bab's, you may be talkng about Dr. Sage's which was top floor of the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway and The Grand Central Station Lounge at the Choo Choo Read House as it was named after B. Allen Casey took over, late 70's-early 80's.

I found out about the Oklahoma City bombing at the Stone Lion, back when they had a tv mounted near the ceiling. Sandbar was fun, and Brew & Cue. B&C lost their license before I was legally able to buy alcohol, guess why?!

The Concrete Kitty was my place in the universe, and it's closing probably saved my life...
But I also miss Geno's / Instant Beer Pleasure.
Is the Lower Deck still around?

Remember when Pack got in a rolling gunfight with two thugs who were gonna rob him?
They went across the Olgiati into Red Bank and Pack wound up chasing one behind the old Red Food @ Signal Mtn. road and gunning him down.

I think the son, Paul Grey Jr. & wife live in the house, or at least they did about 4 years ago when he managed a cash advance type place on Rossville Blvd. near Wendy's. They wife is from Chickamauga. Very pretty.

Blaylock's on Main. I remember back around 1980...Friday nights $2 pitchers and fresh oysters on the half-shell flown in from Florida. My dad and I would show up around 6pm and drink beer and eat oysters till we couldn't hold any more.
