There used to be a place on 23rd Street named Katie's Four A Clock. Went in ONE time and saw a sign that said, "NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURIES RECEIVED ON PREMISES." Turned around and left immediately.

Well they were pretty lame at the time. They were competing with Black Flag, Suicidal Tendancies, Meat Puppets...
...Uhm, my one question is: who was buying the beer when I was 15?

Peg's Keg and there were a couple places along Signal Mtn. Blvd. that were a little liberal with there beer selling process in those days.

You were a brave or a stupid man.
The latter is applicable.
But having patronized Brown's Tavern in Tiftonia, Katie's & every other local bar was very tame by comparrison. I'm not sure that posting members of the local constabulary were LE's back then or if they remember D.W. Brown, but if they do, I wonder if they would agree with my contention that it was the roughest & most interesting night spot (and it was 24/7) "bar none."

Katie's Four O'Clock Club, we are going a long way back, now. 1972? There was a truck stop right across the street.

Dee Brown LOVED the po-lice, and you were always welcome there if you didn't mind having your tires slashed or windows busted. One of my contemporaries went back outside and found a whole crapper tossed through his windshield. We accused him of being shitfaced.

You're right! Very few people are THIS old! I lived in Windridge Apts. on Pineville Rd. at the time. He used to give me all the catelogs going to people who no longer lived there. Great guy!

Did they change the name to Hagaman's? That family owned the 23rd St truck stop for several years ....

Yes, it was the same truck stop. A low-lit, dark place. Don't know what is in that location now, haven't been down on 23rd for years.

Mr. Hagaman had a small dispute with the Treasury Department over a reported burglary at his Missionary Ridge home where an inordinately large amount of cash was allegedly taken. He lost.

Did Hagaman own more than one truck stop? Seems like it was a chain.

Bob, I do remember the Jolly Ox and Rumors. The food at Jolly Ox was so good, in my opinion. They had the best filet in town at that time.

I haven't forgotten Bennigan's. Bartenders: Harold, Darrell, and Terry. Regular bar guests, Marvin(Amos), Big Rod, Bob Johnson (yes), Richard Korsakov(attorney), David Jones, Dr. Bill Findlay and the late Mike Olinger, coach. Nice memories.

A great personal and professional friend, and a credit to the medical profession. He saved two kids in North Brainerd some years back on a SWAT call; their dad was going to kill them, and Bill talked him out of it. Does anybody remember Mohammed from Bennigan's? If I had a dollar for every hour I sat there, I still wouldn't be able to cover my tab.

tsavodiner, I don't ever remember Mohammed being at Bennigans(PBUH). Dr. Findlay was pictured on Chattanoogan.com recently. His wife was given a Living Legend Award. I saw him at Christmas at the Ace Hardware on Lee Hwy. driving an older cream Mercedes. Is it true that Dr. Findlay is a pioneer in detecting breast cancer in males? Did you recall Richard Korsacov, the attorney who used to sit at the bar?

True. I haven't seen Korsakov in quite some time, don't know if he's still kicking.

Sunny, does he still practice law? Or is he retired? You should tell him that he is being discussed! He would like it!

The Tiki Hut had the lowest ceilings in the known universe. There was a short-lived bar called The Brass Monkey, across from Leonards on Brainerd Road. They had free baskets of Hot Fries and served cold draft beer in mason jars.
