They are now open in the old La Costa, and even older Pario's, location off Mountain Creek Rd. This establishment is a spin off off Taco Rico on Main St.
They have most everything offered at Taco Rico with several additions. The obvious addition are the empanadas, these are pastries with fillings such as cheese, cheese and shrimp, cheese and chicken etc. then deep fried. We shared a cheese and a cheese and shrimp, both were very good and freshly prepared.
Other additions to the menu include salads and entree plates with beans, sometimes black beans, and rice. A dish I look forward to trying was rice with chicken, sausage, shrimp and ham. There are a couple of similar items on the menu, arroz con this or that.
The balance of our meal were dishes we've had at Taco Rico; chicken tamales, tacos and papusas, all were of the excellent quality we have had at Taco Rico.
Our server was definitely non-Hispanic, if he is on duty, which it sounds like he mostly is, no-one will have a communication problem. The kitchen staff, happily, seems very Hispanic.
Perhaps the best addition is that they serve beer. The selection is minimal right now, but they are very interested in offering a wider variety of beers, both Mexican and American craft-brewed.

I had an empanada at the Taco Rico location and it was the best thing I had that day. I'm looking forward to visiting the Empanada House.

Dang, I don't remember seeing empanadas on the menu at Taco Rico. They must have expanded the menu, or perhaps a few brain cells have gone bye-bye.

By the way, The Empanada House is closed on Sundays for the time being, so don't try to visit today. They are going to evaluate their Saturday business (which they describe as pretty slow) with an eye to closing on Saturdays and being open on Sundays. They will be closed one day a week as there is only one crew working there. They told us they will make the decision and begin advertising after the 4th.

Just wanted to say that I love the Empanada House. The wife & I stopped by for dinner tonight and had the special which was Caldo de Camarone (I think) Anyway it's shrimp soup & 2 empanadas & a drink for $6.50. The server was very nice & recommended the soup and to my delight it was wonderful. I was just reading through the post & stumbled upon this and couldn't resist commenting. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
