Hamilton County Government will hold its 19th Annual County Fair at Chester Frost Park this weekend. Some of the highlights of this year's fair include: - Eudora Farms World of Animals
- Little Miss and Mr. County Fair Contest
- Live Entertainment on Three Stages
- Four Hot Diggity Dog Shows
- Cheerleading Competition
- Dance Expo
- Petting Zoo
- Complete Lineup of Equestrian Demonstrations
- Home Centered Competitions
- Blue Ribbon Exhibitions
- Over 100 Food, Craft and Commercial Vendors
Admission is free. This year there are two ways to get to the Fair. Take a bus from Northgate Mall or Middle Valley Recreation Center, or take the Fat Cat Ferry from Harrison Bay State Park. Bus tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 3-12. Boat tickets are $7 per person. Strollers and wheelchairs are easily stowed and transported to the Fair. Those with handicap tags will be directed to a special location within the park and transported to the fair grounds. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_135678.asp

They screw the park up for two days to have this fair to the point where people can't do any fishing off any of the piers or at all along the shoreline. So screw the fair and I live within 3 miles of it.

Hamilton County may be "fair" this weekend, but it usually scores higher than that...closer to "pretty good."

I agree and would take the Fat Cat over to the fair if I was going to be around this weekend.

Jeez 'coaster, that really sucks that of the 52 weekends a year there is something happening on one of them that causes fishing to be bad. So screw you and the attitude you rode in on.

Hey Bear, listen, no one can use the park just for this so called Fair which occupies just one section of the park which is the island. I can understand not allowing people go to that section but not the rest of it.

Again, it's ONE weekend a year. If that's your biggest problem you are one lucky guy.

Who has time for fishing, right?

While I would love to ride the Fat Cat, I'm working at the Fair and will already be there. Going to be a nice weekend.

I'll be at the Fair Sunday but will take the bus from Northgate...
Why do they always plan the County Fair and Culture Fest on the same weekend?

I wish they had those "fried waffles" that I remember from the Gerry Rodeo as a lad.

We have just returned from the fair. We had a great time, there are many craft booths and all kinds of eats. A particular joy was to discover that the Shriners are milling and selling grits and cornmeal for $1.00 per bag. This is probably the bargain of the month.

I picked up some of that yellow cornmeal TNBear. Can't wait to make some cornbread with it.
Also bought a really pretty necklace from one of the craft vendors.

We are thinking eggs, sausage and cheese grits for breakfast tomorrow. Then shrimp and grits for supper next weekend with friends. Cornbread could break out at any time.

My daughter is a patient at the Shriner's Hospital in Lexington. The local Shriners have been so wonderful to us...I will support then in any way I can!

Bob, I hope you made it out to the fair anyway, but you'd have never made it on the FatCat. It wasn't so much the boat itself, it was the dock. Remember where we had the picnic? Boat launch was at the bottom of that hill, with no path from the parking area down there that was chair accessible (although you probably could have driven down there from the other side of the inlet). The ramp from the dock to the boat you might have gotten on, it looked almost wide enough. But on the other side, you might could have gotten from the boat to the dock, but the ramp from the dock to the shore was barely 24". Then you'd have been stuck at the bottom of the hill, with a very steep climb to get to the top where all the stuff was. Fortunately, you could simply drive all the way up to the fair and park up there, or the shuttles from Northgate had chair lift buses. I guess the FatCat people decided anyone with disabilities would use one of those options, and not take the ferry.

Thanks to your call, Worm, I drove out. I saw the dock on this end, Harry made some money I bet. The boat looked crowded every time I saw it. Took a couple of photos. Why would someone take a little short dog to a place like that. I saw several little dogs that looked terrified of all the feet around them.. [shrug]

They were running 260 a load in the early afternoon, but dropped to 200 a load later. They said the water level had dropped nearly 3' that afternoon, and they were worried about the props hitting the bottom, so they reduced their max passengers to gain a little draft.

Tank was stirring the bottom when we rode over on the first ride of the morning - especially while docking at the Chester Frost side.
