A new 12-screen movie theater with stadium seating will be built downtown, replacing the Bijou Theatre, officials of the RiverCity Company said. The new Carmike movie theater will be built at a current parking lot at Third and Broad. Officials said construction on the 2,500-seat theater will begin in December and it should be ready in November 2009. New commercial space is also planned on the block, where the Haney Building once stood. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_135857.asp

One question: Why tear down one theater when there's a perfectly good one already there?

Because only two of the theaters have decent sound - it is far from"perfectly good".
Of course the real reason is to free up land for more condos.

MS it is two things. seating is too small per screen + Property value for condos = new theater with stadium seating with larger seating capacity.

Cuz stadium seating is the wave of the future and maybe this one will take away some of the crowd from the Rave like I thought Norhgate would do.But that is okay I go to the one in FO now.

There's only so much you can do with those seat stains after a while.

Wow! Fort O got a stadium seating theater. Cool.
There was always something 'wrong' with the Bijou. The hall were to wide for their height and kind of made me feel like the cars were squishing me. I know that's silly, but it made me uncomfortable.

I doubt that this will draw as many people downtown as they though especially with the parking situation. I wonder if the after 5pm parking is free still holds water for the meter maids.

"Tear down?" Umm, it would be nice if people would actually READ the article before posting.
"parking situation"? I didn't know there was a 'parking situation'. I guess some fat azzes may complain they have to circle the block for an hour before a spot opens up at Sticky Finger's front door when they could park 2 blocks away and heaven forbid actually walk or take the free shuttle. But, then again, I guess those O2 tanks are kinda heavy when the hover-round's battery is dead. And if it is before 4:30 and you are complaining about paying .50c to park maybe you should be staying at home to begin with.
