October 3, 2008
At 0105 hrs, patrol responded to Parkridge East Hospital on two persons shot. Both had been transported by private vehicle to Parkridge East Hospital and transferred by ambulance to Erlanger Medical Center due to critical injuries. The juvenile victim was CPR during hospital transfer and died at 0210 hrs in Erlanger’s emergency room.
Victims are:
Isaac F. Robinson (deceased; multiple gunshot wounds to chest, shoulder, face/head, and thigh), B-M, age 16
Michael Shadden (gunshot wounds to the neck and back right shoulder; critical condition; alert and talking). W-M, age 19
The surviving victim (Shadden) stated he and Robinson hitched a ride from a black male, on Taylor St. , driving a dark brown Chevrolet Caprice and let them out on Arrowhead Dr.
Shadden stated that Robinson knew a girl that lived in the area and was the reason they were in Brainerd. Shadden stated they walked several side streets for approximately 1-2 hours and encountered two black males also walking and one suspect produced a handgun and started shooting them.
Both victims ran from the area to Brainerd Rd near the Krispy Kreme Doughnut business where a motorist spotted them and stopped. Shadden told the occupants, in a 2004 white Ford Explorer Sport Trac pickup truck, they had been shot and they got in the back seat; and transported to the hospital.
Shadden did not know what street they were on when they were shot. Patrol and investigators combed the area but were unable to locate a crime scene; will attempt during daylight. We are currently using 5609 Brainerd Road as incident location until the scene is located.
Shadden described the suspects as:
Black male, red t-shirt, tall, shoulder length “dreads” hair (shooter)
Black male, white t-shirt, short “low” hair
If anyone has info on this shooting or can give a location of hearing gunshots in their area last night, we are asking them to call the Chattanooga Police Department at 698-2525.

On 10-03-08 Detective Ed Merritt of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office met with Homicide Detectives from the Chattanooga Police in the 3900 block of Pattentown Road.
He was briefed by them of an alleged shooting that took place in the Brainerd Area on 10-03-08. Information was received from several sources who told them the actual shooting took place on Pattentown Road in the Ooltewah area.
Upon investigation of this location, physical evidence was found that verified this was the location of the shooting. We were advised the shooting took place at 3933 Pattentown Road , during the early morning hours of October 3rd, 2008.
Several witnesses were located who had been present inside the residence when the shooting took place. One of the occupants inside the residence was the defendant James Bryan Miller.
Shortly after midnight three subjects forcibly entered the residence with face coverings and armed with a long barreled type weapon. Once entry was made the defendant produced a weapon and began firing multiple shots toward the armed subjects, striking two of the individuals.
The subjects fled the scene and later showed up at East Ridge Hospital , where one of the subjects identified as Issac Robinson died from multiple gunshot wounds. An additional subject identified as Michael Shadden also suffered gunshot wounds to his back area and was hospitalized.
The defendant was positively identified by occupants of the residence as the person who fired numerous rounds striking both subjects, which ultimately caused the death of the victim Issac Robinson, and the wounding of Michael Shadden.
The defendant James Bryan Miller has made no attempt to notify police, summon medical aid, or report the incident to authorities. Warrants have been obtained for Criminal Homicide for James Bryan Miller. All events occurred inside Hamilton County , Tennessee . The Chattanooga Police Dept. assisted in this investigation.
If anyone has information on the location of James Bryan Miller they need to contact the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at 622-0022 Attn. Det. Ed Merritt. Dusty Stokes Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Public Information
