Last night around 1:15 am Chattanooga Police attempted to stop a vehicle driving recklessly on Hixson Pk.
The vehicle stopped in the 3600 block and the officer arrested the driver for DUI. During the initial contact the officer observed the driver chewing on something white and asked the driver what he had in his mouth, the driver replied 2 Hydrocodone pills, at that time the drive spit the rest of the tablets out. During the search of the vehicle several other pills were found.
The driver was arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail. While at the jail Eric Painter W/M told the jailers he had taken Hydrocodone, Zanex and Percoset. Mr. Painter was then transported to Erlanger, the officer stated he and Mr. Painter talked on the way to Erlanger and when they made the turn into the parking lot Mr. Painter slumped over in the seat.
The officer immediately notified the emergency room staff that his prisoner was unresponsive, with the assistance of ER staffers Mr. Painter was taken inside where he showed no visible life signs. He was resuscitated and eventually moved to the ICU for observation. His condition is now stable and no longer life threatening.
As soon as Mr. Painter is released from the hospital he will be booked for DUI.
