by Janet WilsonThere’s a new restaurant in the old Cellar location in the Tallan Building at 200 Martin Luther King Boulevard. The Deep Bistro & Lounge has opened and the space looks terrific. The menu is innovative and the presentation creative. You just have to see the Ceasar Salad to believe it. Right away we knew reaching a decision was going to be difficult. The appetizers including items such as a plate of spreads - pita with hummus, focaccia with eggplant tapenade and pita with muhammaro ($3 each or $7 for all); or, ceviche (in cured salmon ring, micro greens, crostini and avocado-lime aioli ($8). www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_142160.asp

wow
I also went to deep couple of weeks ago. Had the gnocchi..thought it was possibly the worst gnocch I have ever had in my life. I am a gnocchi snob I will admit it is one of my favorite foods. undercooked, cut to large, sauce totally soaked into the potato and left it dry and tasteless (but seemed to be a very nice balsamic)..lukewarm. Beef Tartare..had connective tissue in it..nuff said Duck confit...lukewarm, good flavor, haricot vert also lukewarm
atmosphere - hmm, i don't think it has changed that much..i mean colors, walls gone, but still stale, kitchen too loud in dining room bad design for an open kitchen. Reminded me more of a waffle house when the waitress yell their orders out.
not impressed. menu sounds impressive but kitchen fails to execute.

I'm not impressed with FoodWorks so I guess I won't be going to check out another of their overpriced restaurants.

With lunch at $9, it could be named "Deep Pockets Bistro".

Or maybe because most people in Chattanooga would rather have some good pinto beans than "pita with hummus, focaccia with eggplant tapenade and pita with muhammaro ($3 each or $7 for all); or, ceviche (in cured salmon ring, micro greens, crostini and avocado-lime aioli ($8)." (I don't even know what most of that stuff is.)

I like that you made this comparison. Pinto beans and corn bread is one of Stychen's favorite meals. It is actually a cultural equivalent of pita with hummus. I like pita with hummus. I also like babaganouche with pita. I don't pay those prices for it, though.

The place closed due to some bad business partners. . .so I hear. the same "business partners" are/were still involved in foodworks. 2 main guys gone, investors in charge. But the place closed because it sucked...if it was due to the business partners then foodworks would be gone as well, and unfortunately it is not...maybe soon.
