Adcox Kirby Chevrolet began life on Dayton Blvd In downtown Red Bank. What was the name of the dealership before Herb Adcox and Ed Kirby bought it? Who was the owner? This question was posed in the Police Blotter and is off topic there so I'm moving it here. Kordax responded: I don't know the before Adcox-Kirby, but I remember them singing their commercial -- someone played a guitar & someone had a bull fiddle if I recall correctly. Yes, two brothers. One on a guitar and the other on the "bull fiddle." What was the name of the group singing the jingle?

Don't know the dealership, but it seems like the guys who did the commercial were the Willis Brothers.

There have been at least 2. The Red Bank Drive-In at Dayton Blvd. and Browntown Rd. It was where the old Food-Lion was located. There was also a movie theatre on Dayton Blvd where the Red Food Store was located. A building that is now owned by REd Bank baptist

Did any one else notice the Roy Cox TV is coming down? The Caterpillars were chewing up the rear end of the building yesterday.

No, I'm talking about an individually owned grocery store that was located on the corner of the row of buildings containing Brogdon Dentistry.

Great Photos!
Personally, I'm unhappy that not only is the Roy Cox & neighboring storefronts coming down... but the one UP the hill next to the Chiropractor has also been demolished.

Scareltt.... neither am I!
Lo! Sayeth the elders and high priests. The churcheth taketh overeth the cityeth!
Basically for the simple fact is that because of the political pull from the RBBC and the RBPD, no chain restuarant will relocate to Red Bank. The city leaders talk of how they want to encourage business to locate to our city, but then they slam the door on the before they ever make it to town. Don't get me wrong, I lve and work in RB and I love our community, but we need more. I get soooooo tired of pizza and mexican food! And now there's a new mexican going in the old shoney's bldg. Please, dear g-d, an Applebeas, O'Charleys or the likes!
Thank goodness we still have a costume shop for halloween, g-d forbid we ever have a haunted house, LOL!

Prior to the Red Bank Drive, that property was a farm owned and operated by my great grandfather. He purchased the property somewhere in the early 1890s. The old homeplace which sits up on the hill overlooking the property still stands I believe, though I am not sure if it is still in my family. I had two great aunts living there until they both passed away, within the last ten years.
Just a piece of Red Bank trivia.

Traveler, is that the Farr's place you are talking about? Growing up there were rumors among the kids that the floors had silver dollars embedded in them. I always wondered how that rumor got started.

I never heard it referred to as Farr's place so probably not, but could be I guess. The house sits back off of Browntown Rd. The old drive in was behind the house. As a kid when we would go out there we would sometimes watch the movies from there....without sound of course. We were to the right of the screen on the hill.

I saw my first drive-in movie there when I was 16. It was Burt Reynolds in "The Stunt Man". I was on a stretcher in the back of my mom's truck because I was in a body cast at the time.

It was called the Farr place because the Farrs lived there. She was a teacher in either middle school or high school (I don't remember which now) and had a Scottish terrier that she always dressed in a plaid sweater.

At this rate, I might have to sell my house and move to a different part of town more suited to my preferences. I mean, I like Mexican food just fine, but really... a little variety please!

but the number of homeless people never gets smaller.
Simple -- if homeless scum redeemed their worthless lives by dedicating their lives to God's will, joined a church & attended on a regular basis, members would network the former scum into decent paying jobs with decent future prospects ....
Or not.

Without proper supervision, leadership, counseling & the correct implements, a prayer closet is worthless....

It was called the Farr place because the Farrs lived there. She was a teacher in either middle school or high school (I don't remember which now) and had a Scottish terrier that she always dressed in a plaid sweater. Last I heard, coach Farr from CSTCC still was living there and the family attended White Oak Methodist....but that was ages ago. I grew up on Browntown. Now for some more Red Bank trivia: Prior to the name "Red Bank" what was the area known as? Why was it changed to "Red Bank"? What was "Ford's Well" and what was its significance to Red Bank history? Where is the original site of "Ford's Well"? What was Morrison Springs Road's first name? Where was the first post office in the area? Who was Roy Warren and what did he do? Where was a civil war era "overland torpedo" aka "land mine" discovered in the Red Bank area? What was the significance of Stringer's Branch in the Civil War? Which US Presidents have at any time set foot in the Red Bank area (either before, during or after office)? What was the name of the dairy farm that operated out of the Red Bank area? What was the original main road in the Red Bank area?

Ran the Red Bank Swap Shop, as well as being a big Civil War buff.
If I had to guess, it would be in the cemetery by the duck pond.
