Police say 3 lied about alcohol use before teen’s death Teens arrest on misdemeanor obstruction charges
By ALEXIS STEVENS The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday, February 16, 2009 Three Cobb County teenagers have been arrested for giving false statements to police following the death of fellow Harrison High School student Garrett Reed. Trent Benson and Matthew Graeff, both of Kennesaw, were arrested Friday on misdemeanor obstruction charges. Police said they made false statements during interviews at Harrison in the days after Reed’s death. The name of the third teenager was not released because he is 16 years old. According to arrest warrants, the teenagers formulated a plan to make false statements to officers about how minors obtained alcohol and where it was consumed in the hours before Reed’s death on Jan. 24. Additionally, they encouraged other students to make false statements, according to the warrants. The obstruction charges are not related to the arrest of Kecia Whitfield, 44, of Powder Springs. said Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce. Whitfield, the stepmother of a Harrison student, was arrested Jan. 30 for allegedly providing Reed and other teenagers with rum hours before Reed’s accident.

Teenagers lying about drinking? I'm shocked.

Oh, it's something everyone does. We should just let them go.

And give them some harmless weed to help them feel better about themselves.

Don't get bent out of shape, LR, but (as the devil's advocate) I've gotta ask. Do you know of any record of people dying from smoking too much weed?
I don't mean where someone who was high drove into a telephone pole or something like that. I mean from simply smoking too much weed.

>>simply smoking too much weed.
If it was possible, my ex-husband would be dead. But his marijuana use is not what caused all his health problems, his alcohol use did....

"Do you know of any record of people dying from smoking too much weed?"
No. That is neither here nor there when it comes to the dangers of using the stuff. I'm sure there are cancer cases that stem directly from weed, but the link is not always recognized.

Actually it is both. Here and there. At least we know that pot won't directly kill you, though it could make you kill yourself. That's more than we can say about alcohol, which is legal.

Justin, please cite your sources regarding the allegation that marijuana could make you kill yourself.

Bear I'm not talking about making one suicidal, I'm talking about the stupor causing one to be careless and do something stupid or not have the coordination to operate machinery safely. Do I really need to cite sources for that? Heck, my source is me. I've smoked the stuff. I know what condition it put me in. There is no way to safely drive a car while under its influence and I can think of a dozen or more risky activities I would have participated in under its influence that could have lead to lethal consequences. There is a reason I don't smoke the stuff any more and haven't in over thirty years. It's the same reason I limit my drinking. I've got too many responsibilities to be in that condition even in my own home.

I'm sure there are cancer cases that stem directly from weed, but the link is not always recognized. That's pretty vague. On the other hand, we have tobacco, which has hundreds of thousands of cases of cancer every year well documented. Why do you care so much about the imaginary affects of MJ, but never seem to call for the prohibition of a real, documented killer?

Well sir, you make much more of a to-do about weed than alcohol or tobacco. Let's see some rants regarding their evils.

I would have killed to get some weed for my wife...Granted she already had cancer so I guess it would have been even more damaging(sp)...I mean heaven forbid we give the woman who is dying from cancer a drug that will make her 1. hungry so she might want to eat and 2. make her more comfortable...No, no, no...We can't do that because then the drug companies wouldn't get as big a cut of our money...We can't have the people using something that they can grow themselves and not pay taxes on it and there by cut the Gov't out of it's due...Now can we???
