An attempted robbery at the Wendy’s restaurant located at 5200 Brainerd Road was thwarted by the quick actions of the store manager. Police received the call around 1:20 this morning and were advised by several employees that a single gunman tried to rob the store. He entered the business from a back door and made his way to the office where store manager, Ronnie Rhea, was working. Rhea saw the suspect and immediately slammed the door, preventing him access to the office. That action must have scared the suspect, who then fled the business through the back door to an awaiting vehicle parked outside.
No one was hurt during the ordeal. The witnesses described the suspect as a light-skinned black male, 18-20 years old, 6’01-6’03, thin build, bushy eye brows, wearing a gray or black hoodie, whose face was partially covered by a beige tee shirt. They reported that he was armed with a large-sized chrome revolver. The getaway vehicle was described as a dark colored mid-sized sedan but nothing was observed about the driver of the vehicle.
Investigators are working to establish leads in the case.
