After reading the post by Legal Tender regarding Fred Thompson's revealing that he had lymphoma, I wondered what's going on with Senator Tim Johnson, who had something like a stroke back in December. Found this story regarding his recovery. Long road ahead, apparently. The political considerations are always present, of course, but apparently there is no intention to remove him from the Senate. In fact, he is apparently doing some work from his rehab facility, co-sponsoring a bill and speaking with colleagues. He is due to run for re-election in 2008.

Re-election is probably going to be a challenge...at least the rigors of a campaign, but there is no reason to remove Sen. Johnson from the Senate. He should continue to serve as long as he believes he can reasonably represent his state....and, aside from actually casting votes, he can do most of his work wherever he is most comfortable.
