Traffic investigators have been unsuccessful in identifying a young man hit on Riverside Drive early Sunday morning. He was struck by a Honda traveling northbound on Riverside Drive after stepping out in front of the vehicle.
The young man suffered serious head injuries as a result of the accident and was taken to Erlanger Hospital in critical condition. Investigators continue to follow up on leads but have yet to make an identification.
The driver of the Honda advised that he didn't see the victim until the last minute and that he swerved into another lane to avoid hitting him. Despite his efforts, the victim was struck with the front right quarter panel of the Honda. Given the road conditions, and dark colored clothing of the victim, no charges will be filed against the driver.

Investigators with the Chattanooga Police Traffic Division made identification of Andrew F McConnell as the pedestrian struck Sunday in the 1500 block of Riverside Drive . Police received a report of a missing person that fit McConnell’s description yesterday and worked with the traffic investigators to obtain a photo of the victim. Positive identification was made after McConnell’s father viewed him at the hospital.
McConnell is still listed in critical condition as a result of his head injury.
