Police Priorities posted May 15, 2009 I would just like to say thanks to the officer in the North Chattanooga area for being so thoughtful to my husband as he pulled up to our house and you wrote him a ticket for not having on a seat belt. And as he was in front of our house, you would not let my husband get out of the truck. He had to sit there like a common criminal. The police never come when we call to tell them they are making drug deals across the street at the North Chattanooga rec center or across the street from my older daughter's home on Spears Avenue. You don't bother the unruly youth who walk in the middle of the streets with their pants around their knees with their underwear showing. Thanks, Chattanooga Police Department. Way to go. You have your priorities in order.

This person SHOULD thank the police officer for ticketing her husband. Maybe the lesson (assuming he actually LEARNED one) will save his life, should he ever be involved in a 20 car wreck on I-24.

And if he drives careful his whole life, never has an accident and dies from choking on an olive at the ripe old age of 94 he's just put up with the chaffing of that belt his whole life for nothing.

Story of ALL our lives.
Safety violations are definitely more of a priority than how kids wear their pants. She's got them pegged.

"...he's just put up with the chaffing of that belt his whole life for nothing."
Safe practices should be utilized at all times. Prepare for the worst; hope for the best. Maybe peace of mind is unimportant to some people?

That is a distinct possibility. Or maybe knowing one is safe does not contribute to some folks peace of mind. Preventing chaffing could be one of the greatest contributors to peace of mind for certain people.

I'm not a fan of chaffing either, brother.
Seriously.
This one time, this guy at this place was like "Hey, man, did I chaff you?" I and I was all like "Yeah fucker!" and I was like "SLAP!", open-handed right across the face.
I HATE chaffing.

I even tried to do this a few weeks ago while watching an exciting chase scene in HD on my 60". Rediscovered my couch still doesn't have seat belts. True story.

I'm just fortunate I drive a pickup truck and live in Georgia. It reduces the chaffing.

FYI: A seatbelt ticket is a $10.00 ticket and does not go on your record.

It isn't the money, bhmc449, it's the principle. And that would be what exactly? The principle of the officer or officers doing thier job? Writing tickets is part of an officer's job (right or wrong, good or bad) It's funny everytime someone gets a ticket the first thing they throw up is "Why aren't you catching murderers and child rapist?" (which we do actually) I always find it rediculous when people get pulled over and then starting about stuff that have no idea what they are talking about. They just say shit because it sounds cool (rant) and when we call em on it WE are the assholes....whatever. My question is how does this woman know that the police are not doing all those things she was ranting about? ?

It's very difficult to display the requisite dismissive and condescending attitude when I'm rolling in the floor, laughing.

True. That's why I always wear my seatbelt, and my driving is beyond reproach. There is always something overlooked...... "Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with." ('Atlas Shrugged' 1957)

The Left has been cashing in on guilt since the 60's. So has the right. The left makes you feel guilty then the right comes along and makes you feel guilty that you feel guilty. Both are wrong. Both are out just to control.

Both are out just to control. What I find ironic is that in some states its perfectly legal to ride a motorcycle (more dangerous than being in a car unseatbelted) without a helmet, but seat belts are mandatory. I am not against seatbelts, but where is the consistancy?

Well, most laws are observed, but rarely followed.

so what's the big fucking deal about not wearing a seat belt,... it's not like he was speeding, tailgating traffic, & repeatedly changing lanes w/o signaling

You don't to agree with it, you just have to follow it until it changes...
