dead dog in a dumpster - that's what authorities found Tuesday on one local high school's campus.
We started receiving a number phone calls about the abuse Tuesday afternoon. We called the Humane Society and they said they hadn't heard anything but they let us tag along with them to Soddy Daisy High School.
Officer David Hutton pushed trash out of the way in a dumpster just seconds before finding a dead dog inside. The dumpster is on Soddy Daisy High School's campus and that's where Hutton says this dog endured unthinkable abuse.
"Well this right here is just heartbreaking, I mean this is just evilness - there's just not excuse to it," Hutton, who works with the Hamilton County Humane Society, says.
"I thought these guys were helping a dog and it was white Huskey and it was laying there and then I heard the engine rear up and they ran over it a number of times," Katie Roach, a Soddy Daisy student, says.
Roach tells us she just got back from lunch when she noticed several students abusing the dog in the parking lot.
"I got out of my truck and I ran into school and I was in tears. I had been crying all day long because I will never be able to park in Lot A again," Roach says.
"I guess they had dead fish and they stuffed it in his mouth and it was just real bad," Steven Wells, a Soddy Daisy student, says.
A bad act of abuse that Wells says the students continued to laugh about while they placed the dog's body on another student's car.
"Whoever did this doesn't deserve to go to school with other kids. Over and over and over again statistics have showed anybody that's this cruel to animals will also be vicious to other people," Hutton says. this is unreal what kind of people would do that ? they need their asses kicked fish stuck in their mouth and run over with gdamn car

expelled would only cause the hate to fester. They should publish their names and photos in the paper and online and make them go to school.

I read this and felt sick. I imagined my own dog, so friendly and trusting.
I think personally the horror of torture to any being, man or beast, is made the worse when the abused first approached with trust. Like child molesters that first gain the trust of the kid, then turn around and rape them, or kids like this where the dog probably approached them with tail wagging in friendship, only to be tortured and killed in so cruel and heartless a manner.
I know monsters exist and I know it's necessary to learn how to recognize them and avoid them, but that make me any the less horrified by their monstrosity. Quite the opposite, it makes them seem the larger, the more heinous, the more evil.
I read this and had the desperate urge to leave work, go home and curl up with my dog and cry... after rinsing my mouth out from the puke that came up.

Well, that's slightly better, but not much. Although, it may even be sicker. Messing with a dead dog...

Did they find the dog already deceased or did they do the deed off campus.
Sick kids, to do such a thing to a dead dog.

The PDF makes this sound like the boys found the dog dead in a ditch and that the only real abuse to the dog's corpse was sticking dead fish in its mouth. I don't think these kids are the monsters that they are being made out to be in this thread. Just kids with a morbid sense of humor who made used bad judgment in carrying out a prank.

Well, that is what they say. Maybe it is true, but they could just be saying it to get out of trouble. Or not be in as much trouble. Just saying, that is a possibility.

www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_151748.aspfrom the Chattanoogan, the owners of the dog wrote in: " The Soddy-Daisy Dog Tragedy - And Response (3) posted May 22, 2009
His name was Apollo. He was born on the Monday after Thanksgiving 2007. He belonged to a family, our family.
His favorite person in this world was a 70-year-old, disabled grandmother who would split her peanut butter sandwiches with him after he stared at her with his soulful brown eyes.
His fur was soft and white, with some freckles on his nose and tan spots on his back. When he was happy, his full white tail would curl up over his back and, as he wagged, his entire body would shake with it.
He was always happy, until he was being told to get off the couch. He was affectionate and gentle and loved being scratched behind the ears. ............................................" see link for rest of letter and responses

What troubles me is the lack of empathy toward the corporeal remains of an entity once alive; "kids will be kids", but I don't remember ANY such hijinks in my youth, and this suggests a lack of affect--a HARDNESS of the soul, if you will--that is stunning and all too common in youth today.
Pet owners, all is in play when you let them run astray. Beware.
