So...
(Genesis 11:1-9)
If it wasn't cool then, why are we pretty much getting away with it now?

Well, 'god' was pissed that humanity had united and was capable of pretty much anything, so to protect his monopoly on 'god stuff,' he knocked down their tower and made them all speak different languages.
Many say that mathematics is the universal language of the universe, and mathematics does break through all 'worldly' languages made by us mere mortals. (being that 'math is math.)
Also....HTML, which is by its own definition, Hypertext Markup LANGUAGE, is a language created by man for universal communication. With it, we have created a world wide network of computers, and communication goes across the planet using this particular language universally.
(And yeah, if you want to take it on the absolute literal, we are making big buildings, too...and even planning an elevator to take shit into orbit.)
So, that being said...
Why is it ok now?

I don't think we are anywhere near being "one." Regardless of common languages and universal communication we still don't understand each other or work together very often.

How you got anything regarding religion out of the discussion about math and computer languages is a testament to your disordered thinking.
If this was your original intent when you began this thread, ah well, what else is new?

If you're not smart enough to figure out the point I was trying to make, it's not my fault.
Or...in terms that you can understand, 'Go suck a dick.'

Or...in terms that you can understand, 'Go suck a dick.' There it is! That's why you started this thread! It's not a "Stray thread" if it doesn't turn toward the lurid or pejorative. Shalom Ich bete für Freude.

Thank you, Yoda, oh wise one! You have helped me to see my mistranslation. Love the photo. Thank you for a reason to smile this morning!
Here's what I meant to write:
Ich bete für Frieden.

Die beiden? Warum? Wir haben Krieg jetzt. Wir brauchen Frieden.
So as to not be rude, here's the translation:
Both? Why? We have war now. We need peace.

Silly Copperhead, there isn't enough profit in peace
Give war a chance. Why can't we all just get a bomb?

"lack of war" and "peace" are not synonymous.
I think that Kissinger was right. If we stay in Iraq, things will be really bad.
If we pull out now, it will be disastrous.

Or not.
If we decamped close enough to keep Iran, Syria and others out of the mix, Iraqi's might settle this feud on their own. They will reach a kind of equilibrium, eventually. Right now, the U.S. is considering a plan to dry run the Anbar pacification process nationally - that is, strike cease-fire deals with rival mullahs and tribal leaders whose word might be trusted. It's a longshot, but is has some potential.

Grid, you're right. My father worked for General Electric. After Viet Nam, he said that we needed another war to pick up economy. It was soon after that I told him I had voted for Shirley Chislom for president.

Babs, remembering a conversation with her (very conservative) father:
It was soon after that I told him I had voted for Shirley Chislom for president.
I would so like to have been a fly on the wall for the rest of that conversation.
Heh.
