Not bad from a group that only makes up 13% of the total US population!
One out every two hundred Negroes in the United States has died of AIDS in the past twenty five years, and one out of every thirty is currently dying from the disease or suffering from HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, a new report from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated today.
The population of the small African nation of Washington, DC and the city of Philadelphia, Pennsyvlania, were pointed out in the report as populations facing danger of serious negative growth from an AIDS epidemic more rampant than most of West Africa. The DC AIDS rates is comparable to the Central African nation of Cameroon.
The new Center for Disease Control report showed that blacks are ten times more likely to be infected with AIDS than whites and seven times more likely than the general population.
The report also noted that homosexual activity is more prevalent among Negroes than among whites, and was the major cause of new AIDS cases among Negro men, though most Negro women were contracting the disease from heterosexual activity.
61% of new AIDS cases were among blacks, 211,559 of which are said to have died from the disease in the past twenty five years. 48% of those infected are said to have been unaware of it, raising the possibility that the rate of infection is even higher than currently reported.
The CDC report stated with dismay that while new AIDS infections have fallen from 150,000 a year to 40,000 a year among the general population, the figures have continued to grow among Negroes, and that the decrease has been almost entirely among white homosexuals.
