www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19013495/Are we seeing the beginning of a new Cold War with Russia? Putin is mad because the United States wants to place a missile system in the Czech Republic. This defense system would protect against a potential threat from Iran. Putin issued a threat saying he would aim Russian missiles at Europe.

We are seeing the alignment that has been prophesied about in the Bible (remember that book that those crazy "fundamentalist Christians" go on and on about?). Russia WILL align with Iran, and when we help defend Israel (who attacks to keep nukes at bay), Russia AND CHINA will join the fray....probably in a place like Armegeddon??? Read Revelations from an international/historical perspective (foregoing the religious conotations) and what is happening RIGHT NOW looks eerily similar. I'll let YOU decide if it's all a bunch of hooey.

You can do with "that book" what you will....I was merely pointing out that what "that book" predicted a couple thousand years ago SEEMS to be lining up to happen. There are a lot of other sources that also predict that the end of the world or at least a major catclysm begins in Iraq and ends in Iran. I make no effort to sway your belief system, nor do I push my own. I just request that you look at what is said/written and make your OWN decision as to its veracity.

In regards to prophesy, do you believe if the Bible creates what happens in the future? In other words do you think that we create our future to base it on predictions in Revelations?
If you do then You could also make the case for Star Trek creating some of our now high tech gadgets.
No matter how great our economy is suppose to be?!?
I can't imagine either one our economies would be strong enough to support our threats to each other.

The Bible itself can not create. The Bible to some is the word of God. Revelation or Apocalypse to John. It is 3 visions that came to John the Elder in a loud voice like a trumpet and he was told to write down what he saw. It would be difficult to create our future based on Revelations without reading same with ancient eyes.
I can see the Star Trek gadget thing happening! I'm going to be somewhat like Bones when it comes to beaming my molecular around.
Your "economies" theory might work if the Cold War was still with Russia, but w/ these new players with all that oil money and them virgins waiting for them hell it is a new ball game!

If what is described in Revelations -must- occur, then we have no free will.
But we were supposed to be created with free will so that we could -choose- God.
One of these must be incorrect.

Revelations has appeared to be coming true many times in the last couple thousand years. If Bush keeps putting his finger in everyone's face, he's going to get it bit off eventually. He has decimated our military, and now he wants to prod Russia with a missle defense system that guards against missles that don't exist. Who's side is this dumbass on anyway?

So, does God control us like puppets or do we have free will? There are those who think God controls destiny & we have control over those things we control. God has given us control over these areas so we will not be his puppets.

That makes no sense. If we have control over, say, whether or not we spit on the sidewalk, but in the end we're still going up in a cosmic firestorm because God said so, do we really have any control at all?

God controls destiny and you control your saliva. Some would say however, that if you make the choice to believe as many have done that you have control over what happens after the firestorm.

Great quote from Carl sagan on this subject. "You see, the religious people -- most of them -- really think this planet is an experiment. That's what their beliefs come down to. Some god or other is always fixing and poking, messing around with tradesmen's wives, giving tablets on mountains, commanding you to mutilate your children, telling people what words they can say and what words they can't say, making people feel guilty about enjoying themselves, and like that. Why can't the gods leave well enough alone? All this intervention speaks of incompetence. If God didn't want Lot's wife to look back, why didn't he make her obedient, so she'd do what her husband told her? Or if he hadn't made Lot such a shithead, maybe she would've listened to him more. If God is omnipotent and omniscient, why didn't he start the universe out in the first place so it would come out the way he wants? Why's he constantly repairing and complaining? No, there's one thing the Bible makes clear: The biblical God is a sloppy manufacturer. He's not good at design, he's not good at execution. He'd be out of business if there was any competition". [Sol Hadden in Carl Sagan's Contact (New York: Pocket Books, 1985), p. 285.]

God does not make one obedient. Free will does.

No doubt many of you have heard preachers that CLAIM that the Book of Revelation (no 's') is coming to pass, but have you read it and tried to make ANY sense of it? The only way I can make any sense of it is to assume John had been eating moldy rye bread.
What things like Seven Horned Babylonian Whores (or whatever) really are is VERY open to interpretation.
The dude was definitely whacked out of his gourd though.

Not Proverbs, Ezekial.
I personally think John the Revelator was writing about Nero and the Roman Empire.

History. It matches up. The Church was facing much persecution from Rome. I believe John wrote Revelation to give the Church hope.

Nero had Peter, Paul killed and sent John packing. John wrote Revelation to encourage the church to resist the demands to worship the Roman emperor. When Christians refused to worship the emperor, they were accused of all kind of crimes. "To give the Church hope" I can see that as being a part.

BTW, I have thought the same now for about 10 years when I saw some documentary on the subject. I think it was the Show "history of the Bible" or something like that.
