Bob Corker Backing Thompson For President

Sen. Bob Corker said Monday he is backing former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson for President, the Knoxville News-Sentinel reported.

The newspaper said Corker was interviewed after a luncheon in Knoxville at the University of Tennessee.

He told the paper he expects Thompson will make the race.

Congressman Zach Wamp has been one of the leading Thompson backers and is credited with being the first person to call him and ask him to run.

Bob Corker and Zack Wamp aren't doing Thompson any favors. Thompson just lost what little support he had from me.
I'll stick with the unelectable Ron Paul.

I like Paul as well, but I plan on waiting to hear from Thompson based on what he has to say not what Corker and Zack have to say.

I'm interested in seeing what Newt does as well. I think I have heard him say that if there is not a strong front runner by Sept. he's going to throw his hat in .

This immigration bill has just killed McCain & last night we saw him backing away from it some. But, it is to late.

For the moment Dr.Paul does rep. conservatives the best,but he will fade after N.H. or shortly after.

I have heard in the latest polls at least Rasmussen according to Phil Valentine last night, Thompson and Gulliani are neck and neck for lead position. But, I have not heard anyone say why they would vote for either (except Thompson having a hot wife lol) I assume it is name recognition and in Thompson's case...he's old and he's a B actor...are repubs thinking he is the new Reagan or something??? I don't get it myself.

DW, have you even looked at Thompson's credentials?

Long before Thompson was an actor, he was a successful lawyer and federal prosecutor. He has been actively involved with public policy for over thirty years and was instrumental in sending a former Tennessee Governor to prison for corruption. Add on top of that his tenure as a US Senator, which he reluctantly ran for, and then chaired the Government Affairs Committee in the Senate, among other accomplishments.

He was raised poor in Lawrenceburg. He put himself through college and law school and immediately afterward became active in his community and state. He has earned tremendous respect in Tennessee and across the nation for his style and temperment, in addition to his intellect.

Thompson is very deliberative in his thought process. You will not see him employ sound bite answers to tough questions.

He is not flashy. A "B" actor? Maybe. But he is laughing all the way to the bank. It so happens he is also a very well compensated actor which he basically does as a sideline to his real work.

He is getting the kind of attention around the country because he is as qualified as any candidate running for President and more qualified than most of them. And to top it off, he is genuinely a nice guy.

Not to mention that while he was a federal prosecutor, he was instrumental in the Watergate prosecutions. Let's see ... a Republican who's not so party-blind that he would have to recuse himself from the job ... and then made his case and brought the whole scheming bunch of 'em down.

Sounds like a pretty straight-up guy to me. He also had a very bi-partisan voting record in the Senate. Didn't side with the GOP on EVERYthing.

I, personally, would love to see him get in the race because I CERTAINLY don't trust Gulianni, Romney or any of the other GOP candidates. And another Clinton in the White House? I don't think so. And as far as Al Gore goes, if he's in the White House, in less than four years, we'll be driving Flintstone's cars, air conditioning will be banned (he already killed freon) and factories will have to use hamster power.

Thompson has demonstrated that he can be easily rolled -- the Clintons ate his lunch when he was Chairman of the Committee on Governmental Affairs -- he was embarrassingly ineffective & effete when a strong man would have nailed Clinton & many of his highest ranking officials' gonads to the wall for pocketing foreign $$$$ in exchange for special favors...

I was raised as a lower middle class Catholic by parents who both immigrated (very legally) from Canada. Both became citizens of the U.S. as soon as they could.
They raised us to always think critically and research, especially when it came to politics. Naturally, with this upbringing, I have been a registered Democrat (I have voted for Republicans) all my life.
At this point in time, regarding the upcoming elections, using all my critical thinking and research skills leads me to the decision that I will have another Bloody Mary.
