It was announced today that auditions for the 2010 season of television juggernaut American Idol will be held in Chattanooga next fall at Finley Stadium. According to a spokesman for Freemantle Entertainment, the production company behind the popular singing competition, Chattanooga was selected in large part due to the rich history of musical talent to have at one time called the city home. “We’re looking for the next Usher,” the spokesman said. “From the days of Bessie Smith on the famed 9th Street, to the country stylings of the Orange Yodeler, we feel that Chattanooga could easily produce our next American Idol.” Officials with Finley Stadium, however, are a bit nervous about the expected crowds. “American Idol auditions routinely bring in over 10,000 people. We’re used to dealing with crowds in the hundreds for Mocs football games, so we’re not even sure the stadium can handle that type of crowd. Plus, we aren’t sure if there’s enough hair product in town for Ryan Secrest and Simon Cowell,” one stadium official commented privately, referring to the host and most popular judge of the program, respectively. chattanoogapulse.com/news-items/4-news-feature/736-american-idol-tryouts-come-to-chattanooga
