Last year on 4/20, there was a little-but-wonderful happening that went on in Miller Plaza. Dustin, owner of Tremont Tavern and co-owner of Market Street Tavern, and I put together a full day of music on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. This day included the music of Leticia Wolf, Cabin, Seabird, and a few others.
This year, around the beginning of December, I had a crazy thought. Being a professional at crazy, I sometimes listen to the insanity that manifests in my brain. This was one of those times. Bigger, bigger, bigger! We could make this so much bigger. Why not have a two-day festival for this 4/20 and somehow continue to make it free to the public? Why not have at least 20 bands? Who wouldn’t want to come to that?
The resounding answer in my head was, “Do it!” I bulldozed into Market Street and hit Dustin with the idea, talking about 50 mph. Once he was able to decipher what the hell I was saying, it started to sound like a good idea to him, too. With Dustin and Aaron (another co-owner of Market Street) on my side, all we needed were bands and sponsorship. Chattanooga is fortunate enough to have a surplus of really amazing musicians, so finding enough bands for two days of music was not hard at all.
Luckily for us, Sweetwater Brewery was also kind enough to donate several brews to our occasion so that we make some cash with which to pay our bands. These powers combined make up a free two-day music festival in Miller Plaza. We are also having food for the festivities, brought in by local vendors only. Northshore Grill will be cooking up pizzas, burgers, and barbeque, Good Dog will be slinging some wieners, and Riverhouse will offer a surplus of sammiches. All we ask is that you bring some non-perishable food items to help out our Chattanooga Area Food Bank.
