Not all of us have HD tvs (I use to have one but, gave it up in the divorce------IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!) anyway, I have noticed that some tv shows seem to be taping only for 16:9 format and I am missing part of the scenes on my 4:3. For instance the other day I was watching the Office and it was so annoying because in one scene a character was speaking but, only their arm would be in the shot on my tv.
Anyone else frustrated by this?

Anyone else frustrated by this? I think it has more to do with Comcast reformating how they display thier signal. I hated watching the non-hd channels before, now they are watchable again. HD or televisions with the 16:9 ratio should be really cheap these days...

Are you using a cable box, or just plugging the cable into the TV? If the former, there should be a setting to turn on/off letterboxing for wide screen content (its been a while since I did that, so I can't remember if or where, but I believe it should be there).

Hey warm, the only channel that doesn't come in letterbox is Channel 6 on comcast.

Thanks for the info daworm. I am plugging it directly into my tv. I tried to get cable as cheap as possible. I guess I am paying for it in frustration now. Professor: the prices have come down quite a bit but, I am currently unemployed and we can't afford that kind of luxury right now. Maybe someday.

The regular tvs are "warped" on certain comcast channels. Someone else here mentioned that you can change the format on some comcast boxes. I DO NOT believe that is an option. I believe that this is the formatting that comes from the local networks and cannot be changed. As for unemployment, use the HD TV as a bonus to yourself when you are employed again. Nothing is better than HD National Geographic or Discovery Channel. Planet Earth in HD is stunning. (Even in 720)

When I first got divorced and didn't have the hdtv I was so lost and didn't realize how spoiled I had gotten. I use to work in HD tech support for a certain sat company and had to educate customers on the technology. I'll never forget this one guy who had an HDTV tv who called me because he was going to turn off his hd package because he couldn't tell a difference in picture quality. To make a long story short the geek squad set it up and forgot to change his setting on his sat box to 1080i so he had been watching the hd channels in 480p (for those not familiar 720 and 1080 are hd 480 is standard def). I helped him make the correct setting on his box and he was blown away with the discovery channel HD. He was so mad at the person that set up his system they would be lucky to still have a job. He had gone 3-6 mo that way. I think I gave him 6 mo free HD services and he couldn't kiss the ground for me enough
