I went to the Rave Saturday to check out the new Star Trek movie. It was all it was built up to be. I loved it, and I hope they make a new series of movies with this crew.
Leonard Nimoy makes much more than just a cameo in this film, and it is very interesting how he fits into the story.
The actor who plays Dr. "Bones" McCoy absolutely nails the attitude of the original, and in my opinion steals many of the scenes.
The resemblance of the actors who play Spock and Kirk, to the young Nimoy and Shatner is uncanny.
My only "complaint" if it can be called that, is that the story takes a while to develop. That understandable though considering that all the characters have to be built from the ground up.
Great film. I want more.

it was good. i went to the 10pm show at the Rave on the 8th. no kids there. i loved it. the one thing i missed was the explanation between the 25 year wait for the elder Spock to come through the singularity. i know they (elder Spock and the Romulans) were unable to escape the gravity and were sucked inside, but why the wait?
and did you hear any of the computers talking? Majel Barret was said to be the voice of the computer but i dont recall much jib jab from the comp.
i think JJ Abrams intends on a few more movies, and by the outcome of events in this movie, it has forever altered what HAD been written with the original mission of the enterprise. there were a few episodes centered on/around the planet Vulcan. not anymore..................

I saw it on Saturday and enjoyed it very much.
All the main actors are signed for two more movies, so combined with a $75 million opening weekend ($25 million more than projected), I am certain we'll see at least two more movies with the new cast.

I liked it alot. I saw it at Northgate on Saturday. I thought it was very well done, and very refreshing after the clunker movies they put out for TNG. This was the best Trek movie since ST6.

I loved that they put a "red suit" guy on the team going down to destroy the drill. That's classic.

Shooter and I both saw it this past Saturday too. We both enjoyed it. Loved the story and not one dull moment. This movie was perfect for those who have always been Star Trek fans but, with the back story behind the characters it is perfect to bring new people to the franchise. In fact I wouldn't doubt if DVD sales for the classic series see a boom in the next few months.

Hehe, my biggest issue is that the original Uhura had much bigger... umm... attributes. Oh, and no Nurse Chapel or Yeoman Rand.

Am I the only one that thought it could have been better?
It just didn't seem to meet all the hype to me I suppose :shrugs:

So could Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Or one of any number of movies. If you go into a movie looking for it to "live up to the hype", 99.5 times out of 100 you're going to be disappointed.
Example: The "first three" Star Wars movies. I am one of the very few people from the original Star Wars era that wasn't disappointed with the movies (outside of the absolutely horrendous acting of Hayden Christensen) and actually enjoyed them for what they were (even though Lucas re-wrote his own history with those movies). But then, I am also one of the few people from that era who feels that the original Star Wars has been over-hyped. The story is simplistic, the acting ain't all that (and we're not going to mention the dialog. George Lucas is not a good writer) and the editing is terrible, especially when compared with movies such as Jaws, The Godfather, The Godfather, Part 2, Bonnie and Clyde, etc. Doesn't keep me from absolutely loving Star Wars, but as an example of great film making, it ain't. So I went into the "new" Star Wars movies expecting some great eye-candy, simple story-telling, bad dialog and mediocre editing and was one of the very, very few people who enjoyed it immensely. Of course, I think I was also one of the very few people who understood that something like Star Wars and the Matrix (and Star Trek) only come along about once in a generation and the magic of the original will never be duplicated. So I don't try to compare them with their predecessors and just enjoy them (or not) for what they are on their own merits.

I thought it was pretty cool. I went to the Rave now that the little brats can't come and thoroughly enjoyed it. Plan to go to more movies now too.

It was the best movie of all time. Not just the best Star Trek movie, but the best movie of all time.... period. Citizen Kane and Gone With the Wind can suck it!

I went in expecting little and left pleasantly surprised! For those that have not seen it - Sorry But not even Lucas has figured how to revive Star Wars and now Star Trek can continue or say start anew as the future is wide open.
Great concept and JJ Abrams continues to impress.... Could it have been better - well yeah BUT still one of the best films I've seen in awhile.
Geekgasm... Possibly - but also a film very much enjoyable by the Non Geek or Sci-Fi fiends!

A solid 8.5 on a very picky scale. You need to remember that the first Star Trek movie was nowhere near as good as "Wrath of Khan." I'd expect the second movie with the new cast to blow their first one away. The storyline has been set up, let's bring on some more action.

Oh, and no Nurse Chapel or Yeoman Rand. Chapel was referred to but never seen. Saw it twice. Missed some stuff the first time through. Great movie.

i enjoyed it as well. my only two complaints involve chekov and scotty. first, it was hard for me to buy this yelchin guy as chekov. second, they waiting way to long to bring scotty into the story. he was the one i was waiting to make an appearance. the guy who plays him has had some hilarious cult movies.
the biggest surprise for me was bones. karl urban did a great job. i don't think anyone could've played the part better.
