What should the City spend precious taxpayer money for given that our population is stagnant & that the job market sux? Should the City generously spend money for: - Allied Arts $155,000 to $255,000
- Carter Street Corporation $150,000 to $200,000
- CNE $1.5 million to $1 million
- Community Foundation scholarships same $160,000
- Urban League same $50,000
- Downtown Partnership same $100,000
- African-American Museum same $70,000
- Community Impact Fund $250,000 to $300,000
- Scenic City Beautiful Commission same $22,888
- Heritage Hall same $57,019
- Front Porch Alliance new $30,000
- Education, arts and culture $2,111,535 to $2,367,446
From this list, it looks like $4.6+ million should be line-itemed dropped from the budget immediately -- keep the programs & let a foundation pay the freight as local foundations are wont to do.

I keep telling you, Kordax, do as Rep keeps suggesting that all concerned citizens do, and either run for office yourself or get behind somebody who will, and has views similar to your own.
Kordax's Klean Sweep ticket. Throw the rascals out!
Seriously, forums like these, and writing letters, serve to put views out in a limited way, but I think more and more that Rep has the right idea.
As to your list of proposed cuts, CNE in particular is largely a pass-through of federal money, or used to be. Doesn't come out of local taxes, simply returns some of the fed taxes we all pay.
I will have to look at the others, most of which I do not know anything about.

We cannot possibly do without Education, arts and culture because if we tried to, we'd be left with piles of rocks and bent metal littering the town.

we'd be left with piles of rocks and bent metal littering the town. Sounds like yet another person has visited the Chattanooga State campus only to ask OH MY GOD who dumped all this scrap metal and rock quarry waste on the campus lawn?!?! they should plant a tree instead of putting up that junk
