What is wrong with people!
I sell books on eBay, and as with most booksellers, I offer media mail shipping. It states that media mail is expected to take 12-16 business days, and I offer an upgrade to Priority (which isn't too much more if it's a single book or will fit into a flat rate envelope).
I had just had the 3rd person within a week, contacting me, yelling, wanting to know where their stuff is and they ordered it a month ago, etc. I bring it up, and point out that it has been 12 business days, and point out the listing says 12-16 business day.
Then they get mad and say that 12 days is unacceptable!
People, by and large, are quite stupid.

Unless you're the only one offering the books you sell, there's no way I would buy from the guy with 12-16 days shipping. Standard shipping without upgrades is usually 4-5 days.
Maybe your customers don't know they are essentially importing their book.

People are lazy and don't bother reading the whole auction...

Which is worse? The idiot that at least is interested in reading a book, or the chick last night that needed me to explain the phrase "firm grasp of the obvious."

I don't know what you mean by "standard shipping", but media mail, no matter where it comes from is expected to take 10+ business days, according to the USPS. It all goes through Federal Way WA, using space available on transport.

I didn't know what Media Mail was, but now I do.
It should take the same amount of time as Parcel Post, not 10+ days. Yours just takes much longer because of how far yours travels, which the customer probably isn't aware of.
I'm not trying to be an ass here, but 12-16 business days is longer than any shipping of a "ready to ship" item I've ever heard of. However, if you state how long it takes right there in the auction, then they might be stupid. What's the usual subject matter?

Mostly collectible books and large quantities.

I mailed 5 boxes from Chattanooga to Huntsville once, and the first box arrived in 2 days (my guess is they sent it regular instead of media since that wasn't enough time to go through Federal Way WA). The rest of them arrived at the rate of one every 5 business days.
But, the length of time also varies by the USPS volume. At peak times, it takes longer. I have seen it get as long as 4-6 weeks, but I haven't seen that in a few years.
And since when do people no longer know what "business days" means?
I guess my biggest peeve is that when they click on tracking information, they see that it was mailed within 1 business day of payment being received, and they can see that it is in Federal Way (or even on the way to them) and they still contact me to complain.
It's not most people. Most people know what to expect when they order something via media mail, but like the $4 shipping as compared to $24, and they've used it frequently in the past. For all those, I am thankful.
But, the idiots are the ones who stand out.
I saw one person who was selling a rare volume that had water damage. Stated in the title and the description, along with photos of the water damage. Got negative feedback because it was water damaged.
Or the person that I met personally (bought a car from him) who was sued because he sold a non-running personal watercraft as is, and listed the problems. The complaint? It wasn't running. (The guy won the court case, but was out a lot of money anyway.)
People are stupid.

Media mail is limited to certain items. I am an eBay user. The last item I purchased wasn't even shipped until two weeks after I paid. The seller contacted me, he had the flu. I still left him five star feedback. Its got to be more than media mail. What kind of books are you selling? I hope its not porn.
