My prediction is that they pass SOMETHING. Regardless of what the polls show.
We, Americans, have very short term memories. How else can we explain how ANY of the fuckers get re-elected? They just keep on fucking us and we keep on voting them right back into office. They all need to go, every last one of them.

Thing about it is, unpopular programs such as cash for clunkers or the bailouts go away very quickly from the perception of the average voter. They forget why our taxes are so high for things such as paying the money back, but the program is gone.
ObamaCare, however, will haunt us all 24/7 and the voters won't be able to forget it.
They want to ge re-elected over and over and over.

Cash for Clunkers was WILDLY unpopular.

While Cash for Clunkers may have been popular for those who bought cars, it was a horrible deal for the rest of us. It cost $24K per car sold for us to do cash for clunkers. Quite a bargin for those of us who pay taxes.

I'll take Edmunds, who has nothing to gain or lose, over AutoNation, which has very much to gain or lose, EVERY time. But it's a legitimite debate either way. Were many cars sold? Yes, but at what cost to the taxpayer?

Don't forget the interest we'll have to pay in the form of higher taxes.
And 70+% of those who used it were opposed to the program.

You can pull numbers out of your butt all day. This country is not governed by polls. What do you want, a democracy? Look at California, they are proving very effectively that democracy does not work.

Given the chance people tend to vote to get more and vote against paying more. That is what is driving CA broke, giving people too much say with their votes. Remember, it's only "pork" if you're not the one getting it. But polls will never govern this country. The power lies in the hands of those that can afford the best lobbyists. This is a capitalistic representative republic. You get as much representation as you can afford.

Socialism is an economic system. A democracy is a system of government. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Socialism is an economic system. A democracy is a system of government. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Exactly - and we have a little of each in this country. It seems a common misconception here that one is good, the other is bad, and never the twain shall meet.

This country is not governed by polls. It was from 1993 to 2001.

Let's see here...We already have socialism in this country...Thank Jeebus. Social Security , Unemployment Insurance , Workman's comp,... and along with the 40 hour work-week(until "W" aka worst Pres EVER came along so we'd have to work 60 hours to break even!),8 hour work-day(ditto),minimum wage,Women's Suffrage movement,FDIC,Medicare & Medicaid(both flawed but are better than nothing),Civil Rights Act,Voting Rights Act,Clean Air Act,Clean Water Act,NATO,GI Bill of Rights,Rural Electrification Act,Family & Medical Leave Act(I could go on!)>ALL were created by Democrats!
All you right-wing naysayers, what would ya do without these?Unless you're rich you'd be toast! Just like your so-called party.Period. Go ahead and read your myopic/slanted polls RePugnicans!
Palin / (?) Romney in 2012 (haw haw haw, pathetic) PLEASE bring it on mmmk?!

BTW: I am a member of the GREEN PARTY...sadly until this bass-ackwards country wakes up and realizes we need more than 2 parties & has 'campaigns' that are paid with publicly-funded money we will not get much done(DUH). Until then, I vote Democratic(not lock-step tho,I think I voted for a RePug back in Aught,er '98). Not that it matters, but I didn't/don't like Clintons(Bill or Hellary!...She is doing fairly well as Sec. Of State tho).

Rasmussen polls are less useful than soiled toilet paper and about as unbiased as a Frank Luntz 'poll'!

I wouldn't call it hard core red. More red then blue,no doubt, but not hard core.
As far as hard core tree huggers, not too many of those around except for certain areas.

Spaces after commas were invented by Republicans. Also spaces after periods and question marks were invented by Republicans. Green party invented non flushable commodes, why flush the shit away, wouldn't any greens be left if all the shit got flushed away.

Most of those programs you mentioned have contributed greatly to the mess we're in now, and some of them, contrary to your claim, were created by republicans. In fact, the good/bad presidents are pretty evenly divided between the two parties.
Ronald Reagan, easily the greatest president in the last 100 years, wasn't great because he was brilliant; he was great because he was adequate. IOW, he did his job. The only reason he looks brilliant is because his 4 predecessors and 4 successors were idiots. He reduced taxes and inflation and defeated the Soviets, and left us with a 25 year economic boom.
During the history of the USA, we've been in recession or economic decline about a third of the time. Even so, during the last 25 years, we were in growth 96% of the time. That economic might has given us the ability to create cleaner energy production, cleaner transportation, etc.

Maybe not in downtown Chatt but come to the burbs and tell me it aint' RED. Ooltewah, Hixon, East Brainerd, All RED. And we won't even discuss Bradley County, where not a single D holds elected office. Not one. There are MANY conservationist in this area, maybe not hard core tree huggers but certainly many are concerned with nature and wildlife and clean water. Mostly because there are tens of thousands of us who enjoy fishing and hunting and it's only in our best interests to keep the resources in good condition for re-population.
