OK, I was converting some home videos to DVD and turned my VCR off with a tape in it. Now, if I turn it on, it hums, then turns itself back off. How can I get my tape out? I realize that I'll probably have to buy a new VCR, but I need that tape!

Dismantle it? That was my thoughts...... Sounds like the loader jammed.

you probably don't need a new VCR but be very careful getting the tape out or you might kill it. (you can cut and splice the tape if there are any twists.
been there done that, you get to take it apart.

I only have about 10 more tapes to convert. I hate the thought of having to buy a new VCR for that.

Buy a used VCR on ebay or craigslist or something.

many years ago my daughter's favorite movie got stuck - Beauty & the Beast, I think. Anyway, I figured I'd lose the VCR but we had to have the movie. Figuring nothing lost, I unscrewed the case (much like a computer case). It cam right off and I was able to manually lift the mechanism and get the tape out.
