Our new home, while not as rural as our old one is still pretty rural. Our options for internet are 3g or pretty low end cable. Same price.
Any experiences, observations, or suggestions?

I suggest you ask people who live over there.

Most people I've talked to are DSL.

All depends on the specific location. Distance from the closest transmitter for either service and terrain obstructions in the case of 3g. A local tech should be able to test the 3g and get the info of wire miles from the DSL provider. Wire miles can vary depending on the individual circuit for DSL. At least ask one or more close neighbor for experience. Some DSL providers are more willing than others to repair line defects.

Verizon is the 3g provider.
We decided to go with satellite, though, to get the internet/phone/TV bundle. 1.5 mps

I'm using 4G (WiMax) through Clear and I'm happy with it. I don't think I would be happy with 3G. Verizon's 3G network is fairly ubiquitous but I don't think it gives full 3G speed in duplex mode. AT&T's 3G network is fast but it has limited coverage. You probably have gone with the best option for your area.

The good thing about 3G is you can take it with you when you travel.

Turns out, in spite of all the ads trying to sell services, my only options were 3g and satellite. Chose satellite because of the internet/phone/TV bundle price. The portability was a nice incentive, but not quite enough.

When I lived in the mountains, our only choice was dial up and satellite. From what I understood at the time, satellite had decent download, but not much on the upload. Is it still the same?

1.5 Mps on the download and about half that on the up.

Yeah, that is what I remember it to be. But hey, better than nothing, and better than dial up.

About twice as fast as my old DSL on a good day.
