and just what is there to do if you're IN the zoo?? Am I the only one that shot the "free" ones?? Yeah, buddy, I'll kick your scrawny little butt anyday..... What!?! you got a problem with my hair?? "Hide your children" is NOT what you think when you see this man.. Set the camera to 1/1000 of a second, wait in a sunny spot and if you're lucky you'll catch a Lilly flying by.. I've got you're *entertainment* right here furless boy.. no comment What?? I'm gonna get lucky!! I'm gonna get some tonight!!! GridBug made a new friend while we were there There was this really cool bird The reason I went to the zoo was to shoot the cats (and pandas) my favorite snow lepord shot We're talkin "face for radio" here.. [grin]

I'm very impressed with the white Myna bird. That odd mesh on the front was difficult to see through, much less get a clear photo.

And I'm waiting on Yoda to use the Turkey as an Avatar.

It definitely is a fun place to visit. Not that expensive either. Me, Lily, and Grid enjoyed the petting zoo (For some weird reason, everyone else ran away at that point, heh

The zoo admins are liking us posting photos here and on clevelandnewsnow.net and it may earn us an after hours safari.
Scarlett, I kept trying to explain how to shoot through the bars, but people kept looking at me like Shut Up geek, I know how to take a damn picture, so I did.

*grin* I tried it..... For some reason, it didn't work out well for me.. I guess my point of reference wasn't about the same length away as the subject..

I get the trick - just need to figure out how my current cam does it. Way back when in the days of film cameras I would only use manual, now I need to suss out the overrides.

My digital is all Auto Focus. I'll need my 35mm to do that.
BTW - Bob, if I drag out my old Fujica for my son, would you help explain how to use it? There are a lot of things I've forgotten since my college photography class.

Sure If your camera is autofocus (as is my coolpix that I carry everywhere) focus on something the same distance away, hold the shutter button half way down (usually will lock the exposure) then re-compose and it should be focused on the subject and not whats in front of the subject (like bars)

Nope. Mine is fully manual. It's a 'College Photography Class' camera. The kind you have to have to learn what an F Stop is and how to manipulate the depth of field and all that good stuff.

Mz Scarlett: at the zoo, you had (when you were allowed to touch it) a fully automatic camera.
I'll be happy to spend a couple of hours teaching photo101 to your son. Perhaps then he'll not look at me like I'm "One of Moms weird friends"

Yeah. And so many of my friends call him things like "Spawn of Stringer" and "Pod Person" he gets a bit 'flenchy'. That and he's SIXTEEN. Gees.

He also has a mom that has no problem going to the mall wearing a full length black gown and a big black hat (all trimmed in red) skipping and singing to everyone "I'm your fairy goth mother!!"
[grin]
I guess his bar for "weird" would have to be high..

Great shots, Bob. You know I'm partial to use of depth-of-field, and most of these had that. If you would, please send me that first Panda photo for posting on ClevelandNewsNow.net as the pic o' the litter. And after-hours photo safari sounds fun.

Please let me know when the next one is. I didn't even know they had a camel or a petting zoo...going solo is just never as much fun. OTOH, I did get to hold the boa constrictor, and she kissed me
