My son needs to start a new job. They need a copy of his Social inSecurity card.
Being a teenager, he loses things, so he didn't have it.
We went to the SS office, and he showed them his ID, but it turns out that it expired on his birthday 2 days ago. (If he had gone then, they would have given it to him.) Since it's expired, he needs a new ID to get an SS card.
So, we go to the DMV. In order to get a state issued ID, he needs either his SS card or his birth certificate.
My wife, being who she is, has apparently lost his birth certificate, so we called TN to see what it would take to get a new one, and his grandparents can go get it, but they need a copy of either his SS card or his state ID. (He would have to have one or the other, even if he were there.)
We're stymied as to what to do next.

Kinda like TN wouldn't give me a "wheelchair" tag because I didn't have proof I was in a wheelchair (She told me this in person [grin])
I recently had to get a copy of my birth certificate. The lady at the health department was really helpful, I did have a valid drivers license but I bet she would know what needed to be done in your case. Have someone go to the office where this needs to be done and I bet they can sort it out. Over the phone you won't get any help.

I'm going to get my parents to go down there if my wife can't come up with it.
When my wife needed hers from PR, we ran into a few difficulties there, as well.

Since I have lost anything, and never do, that's a moot point, except between me and my wife.
But, let's just pretend for a moment that we talk about the actual point here. Pretend that you lost it all in a house fire.
You need all three and are being told that you need one to get the other.
That would be the government efficiency of which I speak.
How about we discuss that, as Bob did, like intelligent...
Ah, now I see your problem.

For a birth certificate - Birth Records
A computer generated short form certified birth certificate is available for persons born in Tennessee from 1949 to the present. Computer generated birth certificates will be processed while you wait. Certified copies of the original records are available to the person named on the record and to certain family members or legal representatives. If you request a birth certificate through the mail, it is usually returned to the customer within one to five days of the date received.
There is a fee of $8.00 for the first copy and $5.00 for each additional copy of the same record requested at the same time. You will need to provide Vital Records with the following information: •full name on certificate •date of birth •place of birth •mother's maiden name and father's name •a check or money order made payable to Hamilton County •your signature and relationship to the person named on the birth record •a photocopy of a government form of ID, which includes the signature of the requestor •the address to which the original should be mailed •a daytime telephone number
Mail your request to:
Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department Vital Records Department 921 East Third Street Chattanooga, Tennessee 37403
This information can be faxed to us at (423)209-8024 if you prefer to pay with Visa or Mastercard. You may call us at (423)209-8025 with your credit card information.
Copy of ID from the requestor - which can be a parent, etc.
Will this help?

My wife applied for her certified birth certificate from the State of California and recieved it in the mail within a week, she was born in San Diego County, she went to the website for San Diego County and it told her what that county needed and she gave them the information in a letter.

It does help.
Although the SS office can't accept an expired ID, the BC office can.

I got mine from Hawaii in less than 2 weeks in the late 90s. Same way, looked it up on the web, sent in what I needed, got my BC.

It is easy, thanks to a few friends, in spite of an asinine little pea-brained twerp.

I'm with WK on this one - unless he can produce a birth certificate I doubt he is a citizen. Deport him and send him back to Kenya. I'm so tired of these illegals taking services Real Americans paid for.

And are ya gonna believe the "parents" that the child was born here? Parents need to produce proof of citizenship too!

Both my wife and I had to to get our passports. Because they required the long form, not the easily forged certified copy, my wife's abuela had to go to the courthouse and get a copy of it.
I wonder why the clown in the White House is spending millions to keep from having to show his?
