According to Chattanooga Beer Board Member, Christopher Keene, "we have to do what it takes. We cannot go down the drain because of one or two bad clubs. If the fire breaks out you put water on it.") That's why the Chattanooga Beer Board is choosing to make some changes at two downtown night clubs that have been under a lot of scrutiny in the past month. The board voted to revoke Midtown Music Hall's beer license and suspend the license of 807 Fire and Ice for 30 days. But the decisions did leave a bad taste in some mouths. While some speculate a racism motive in the decision, the President of River City Company, Kim White disagrees. wdef.com/news/chattanooga_beer_board_votes_on_beer_licenses/09/2011*********** I do wonder how the club is to control behavior after people leave.

Bob'll tell you: Extirpate it.
Learn who your troublemakers are: the Jaager-shooters, Red-Bull badasses, general mouthabouts, and just plain make 'em uncomfortable in your place.
Cultivate the locals, the weekenders who like a good show and a little buzz, the gentrified motorcyclists, the professionals formerly called yuppies.
That way it never GETS to "outside afterward". Maybe it's not fair, but life AIN'T, and if you don't believe dram-shop liability's a bitch, ask Phil.
Oh, I FORGOT: Settlement details were CONFIDENTIAL.

It's kinda funny, in a fucked up kinda way.
The city likes to put the ringers on clubs in other "bad parts" of the city where gangs err... troubled youth like to go. Now that all of those have been shut down, the only place left for these gangs err... troubled youth to go is downtown. - where all the tourists are. Now everyone, including families and tourists, are afraid to go downtown because of the rampant gang err... troubled youth problem. BRILLIANT!

I wouldn't expect "troubled youth" to hang out at a business. Somebody's house, yeah but not a place where they would have to buy stuff.
I think the clubs, including track 29 should look at some of the other clubs in this area. Cowboy, Sky Zoo, Envy all have huge late night crowds (last time I was up that late on the weekend and drove down brainerd rd)
I watched a fight break out at Cowboy the last time I was there. It was "ended" in seconds and the guys removed and "back to normal" very quickly. Its a big room full of drunks, their security is why they are still open. (In my opinion)

In other words, more and good quality bouncers that also work the area outside the club. Make sense in some ways too, since new customers aren't going to go around a pack of fighting dogs... er... men to buy drinks inside.

"I wouldn't expect "troubled youth" to hang out at a business. Somebody's house, yeah but not a place where they would have to buy stuff."
That's because you have some common sense and decency. Unfortunately, many of the "troubled youth" who are causing issues downtown have little common sense or decency. Just a couple weekends ago, the manager at TGI Friday's next to the Aquarium called for police assistance. Seems that several groups of youngsters chose his place of business to "hang out" at. One group got a table where a few ordered appetizers & meals while another larger group sat/walked around the parking lot. All during the meal, most of the youth went in and out of the restaurant several times....all sharing the food that was served. After they were finished grazing, the entire group tried to leave without paying, claiming "someone else" ordered the meal and they just shared in its consumption. It wasn't until several were about to be given a ride to JDU that money "mysteriously" appeared to cover the meal. Not enough for a tip, of course. The manager claimed to have lost several patrons who were disturbed by the large crowds inside and outside disrupting the orderly flow of the restaurant's business.
It is this lack of decency and self-control that causes much of the concern downtown business owners have. And if the parents are ever brought into the mix, most of them blame the restaurant for "allowing" all the youngsters inside. But had the restaurant denied this group service, the same parents would be screaming racism and running to a lawyer's office. The business owners lose either way.

I'm afraid it may not be over for Track 29. The location is at the end of the parking lot at the Choo Choo and sort of protected. The sorrounding area isn't so hot either. I hope it hasn't been "marked".

Track 29 is not a "club"
It's a music venue. They have their own hired security.
If they would change all shows to 21+ it would limit the problems. That would greatly reduce the reason for a beer board or heavy police presence.
They have a stage, a bar, a smoking area, a parking lot, & a front door & ticket prices that weeds out people who are just there to "hang out"
you go to track 29 to see a show by an act you either know is good or have extremely high expectations for. There is no reason anybody would want to/benefit from loitering there.
Unfortunately they do have some 18+ shows, and when those go down everything I just typed is moot.

LR I don't know about now but stood behind enough bars and managed enough restaurants that I feel management could have prevented it. Legal in the 1980s and legal now aren't the same I know and that may be enough to prove me wrong.
Bryan It isn't a club? Its a big room, serves booze, has a band... yeah I don't understand.

Bob, The Cowboy isn't really a place they like to go. I don't know anything about Sky Zoo, itself, but I know that every club in that spot has had problems. Wasn't there a shooting there not that long ago that got "them" shut down? And Envy, from what I hear, still has top-notch security. I know The Drink had great security, including dress codes, to prevent that kinda stuff.

I was just citing ONE example that occurred on ONE night downtown. These groups of kids are causing similar incidents at multiple locations nearly every weekend evening. Downttown has become the old Lake Winnepesaukah: just drop your kids off and hope you don't have to pick them up from jail or JDU.
